I have a 4-month programming experience. I can almost code a leaderboard. Is that normal? And what resources did you use to learn advanced programming?

I’m just a 15-year teenager who wills to be professional at programming. I have a simple knowledge of Roblox programming and a 4-month experience. I can almost code a default leaderboard system. Is that normal? And what resources did you guys use to learn coding " complex " systems?

Could you perhaps specify what you mean by this?

#resources:community-resources would seem like a good way to learn from other Developers. Looking at Roblox Docs on functions that you’re unsure on can help explain their usage, restrictions, and properties.

Using these forums are one of the best ways to get “complex” in coding. Anytime you are thinking on what to do, ask here. Your in a great place to be talking for “complex” things

Do you mean that you can make basics systems? Like you can get the cash system to give cash but that’s it? It’s confusing on what you mean on “almost.”

No, I can’t even code all basic systems. I can’t even code a custom leaderboard. It’s so so complex for me.

Yes, I can code cash system, but not professionally.

Nice!! But it also depends what you mean by this. For example there is different complex complexities on one thing. Everyone learns different things, differently. My knowledge and your knowledge will be different. For example, you might know leaderboards more then me, even though I have been scripting for 3 years. Doesn’t mean I don’t know how to script, or show what level of scripting I am. Different scripters work on different things, so saying if you can code a leaderboard at 4 months doesn’t really explain your skill set, yknow.

He explains it the best! You could be 8 years in experience but someone with 1 year might know how to code a cool system better than you! Just relax and do small projects and sooner you know it your gonna be really well at scripting.

Ah, leaderboards or leaderstats. It’s okay if you don’t know how to script some stuff, I would recommend a youtube video, I know that many people say to always watch tutorials. At first, leaderstats may seem complex - it did for me - but if you keep scripting it and doing comments eventually you will understand. Also roblox documentation can help a bunch.

The documentation? Are you sure it’s really useful??

Oh, yes it’s really useful! Everyday I learn things from the documentation.

Yeah, it helps me when I forget or simply do not know what somethings means. It can be boring at times but yeah it’s really useful.

I’ll start learning from it when I grow up as I’m not that good at English. Writing English is a hobby lol

Quick small question, how do you get the Scripter Badge in the forums?

Join the group: Programmers - Developer Forum | Roblox
Then go to your forum preferences and set it from there

Go to your devforum profile. Go to preferences, scroll down and there should be a button call “flairs.”

Wow, that was quick, thanks a lot

Also, do I sometimes have to figure out somethings on my own?

Yes, unfortunately you do. But it’s really rare as you have a whole community, documentation and YouTube
