I need help learning to build

Recently, I have been trying to learn to build. I see other peoples builds and I come across the problem of complex shapes. How do you make things such as the leaves of this tree? Your also limited to certain textures in studio. Do I need to use a 3d modeling software?

Thats a good start!. You should add more meshes and textures to the wood though.

I didnt make the tree. That was an example.

You are confused; there’s a difference between building and modeling (the way of making 3D objects is different).

The model creator might have used external software, but they could just make the leaves using multiple parts.

There also are custom textures out there which you can use without any restriction.

I know what the difference between building an modeling, I was just wondering if I wanted to be able to build a bit more complex shapes, would I have to do modeling? For the custom textures, where would I find these?

Great question!! There are a ton of plugins that will help you learn, and become a better builder. My personal favorite is F3X. It’s got a ton of useful tools, and streamlines my workflow when using studio. As for the more complex shapes, there are Unions which, while not being the best, allow you to create some complex shapes. I’d recommend looking around on the plugin part of the toolbox and trying out some plugins :smiley:

Missed this, so the difference between building and modeling is the program and workflow. Building uses parts, and unions in roblox studio. It’s very useful for creating houses, maps, and anything else you can think of. Modeling is using blender, maya, or C4D (or any others). It’s very useful for creating very complex shapes that would simply take hours to make in studio.

Those tree leaves are a sphere with sides cut out (union)… or its a mesh

Those leaves are actually meshes. Most people use 3d modeling software such as blender to create meshes.

How the person probably ended up making that tree is through Cinema4D or Blender. Both of which are 3D modelling programs, and they were able to take a part in one of those External Programs and stretch the vertices to form that shape. I’ve done it before with a couple of models, like rocks I had made for my game. I then upload it to the platform, and it comes as a Mesh. Meshes allow you to make structures that you just can’t do with limited tools. I recommend you familiarize yourself with one of these programs, because you’ll be able to build a whole lot better using them.

Well, Roblox has about 20 default textures (wood, grass, fabric, metal, etc.) that you can use on parts and on some meshes.
