I need help with texturing! [Thanks everyone!]

Hello there! I want to texture this asset but i have a problem with doing it.
Whenever i try to paint on the texture it just doesn’t paint, or it stretches the painted part all over the mesh!
I’ve never been really into texturing, so these are my first tries of doing it.
I’ve tried smart uv project, marking vertices seam but it all didn’t work, so i am in confusion right now… image

For the stretching make sure your image texture is rectangular, not square. As for the brush not working, make sure you’ve assigned the texture to the correct part. If you’ve already done that, then make sure you’re using the right brush with the right opacity and size.

This video is also a pretty good refresher for texturing in Blender but, it uses a pre-assigned mesh for texturing.

Have you checked if any of the faces are inverted?

I don’t think so. I’ll check them right now

Okay, i put them on their place since they were inverted but there’s one more problem. Whenever i paint (for example) it’s eye, the paint appears on the back too image

Go to the UV editor tab, and move the UV islands away from each other. You might also wanna try to deform them a bit.

Sorry for the late respond, they are on a good distance from eachother. Nothing helped

Have you marked seams on the mesh to unwrap it?

I think i did, but to clarify i’ll do it one more time and see if it works for sure.

I unwrapped it carefully marking seam particular vertices, still get the same abomination image

Hmm, can you show me a photo of the UV map?

Thanks. Have you tried painting directly onto the mesh?

Well i tried painting the islands but it didn’t paint stuff as i wanted. As i tried to paint on the mesh itself it didnt work well too

Try making these parts more spread out, just like the rest of the map.

I think i changed something and it all works now, thanks for your help guys! It helped me to figure out the problem.
