I need help with UV maps

Hello, thanks for stopping by.

I need help in blender. I have a gray mesh. I need to texture it. I have the UV map unwrapped and colored it so I can reupload the map to blender, I have no idea how to do this. If anyone could help me with reuploading the UV map to blender and make it appear on my mesh, that’ll be awesome. If you have any questions let me know, thanks.

Here is a quick walk-through on how to do it:

I am going to assume you have already completed this stage however I will continue to demonstrate.

Unwrapping

To unwrap a mesh, you can do it two ways in Blender. Either select all of the faces and click U > Smart UV Project
image
or
highlight edges and mark a seam, you can mark a seam by hitting CTRL + E > Mark Seam

After completing this task, you should have your mesh unwrapped in your UV Editing viewport.

Exporting

To export a mesh, find these tabs in your UV Editing viewport.

After doing so, click UV > Export UV Layout.

Save the image

You should now have the PNG for a UV Layout.

Editing

Open up any photo editing software and import the image. I will be using photoshop.
Make sure to color any edits on a new layer

Once you have completed all of your edits in the photo editing program, click Save As > (Name file and select a location that is easy to find)

Importing to Blender

Once you are ready to import your UV edit back into Blender, go to the Materials tab on your context menu and select Material at the top.

Click the circle next to Base Color to open up a menu.

Select Image Texture from the menu.

Click Open and find the PNG file that you just edited.

You should now have your model with a texture on it!

Note: if you change anything on the UV map of your model after texturing, you will have to redo the texturing process so make sure you only export your UV map when the model is completely done.

Have fun with Blender and explore new features!
