I want to get started with VFX

I’ve always wanted to do VFXs. The idea of creating a special power for a Roblox character is almost as satisfying as doing it in real life. Your imagination is the only limit.

But I’m stuck. don’t know where to start. And My access to Youtube is limited (unless I can name a specific video and prove that it’s safe)

I got a Roblox plugin and a Blender addon to import animated VFXs into Blender, but now I don’t know how to make the actual things.

I can make something like this:

but it doesn’t seem really suited for Roblox and I’ve seen really good games that use other techniques,

I’ve heard some people say use Particles, and Trails, and some people who say that you can use a static model and it’ll look amazing if done right.

I’d appreciate some pointers on how to go about making VFX. I can’t really view YT tutorials.

I would start with the common ones to give you a general idea on how things work, however its quite easy if you already familiarize yourself with blender consider searching “VFX Blender Roblox”. Or going to the Blenderartist forum!

If your wanting to strive into making these effects the one you showed above are mainly created using a cylinder and simple modifiers, that’s If your wanting more detailed effects you will need to learn in a 3D software and get comfortable with the interface - tools ect.

Since your limited to Youtube blender forum has tutorials and resources on how to create VFX. It isn’t hard to learn it’s quite easy if you practice learn and have patients.

I didn’t mean that type, as it’s rather high-poly, and the demand for them isn’t that high.
I mean the sleight of the hand tricks that particle artists use to make static images look like something amazing

My apologies it would have been best adding that to the thread to give information on what your looking for. Late response;

Your meaning the ones that you use a transparent image and tweaking the properties with a particle emitter and an attachment implemented to it? If so, you just need a transparent texture and mess around with the appearance of the particle emitter and utilize the design you wish to achieve. There are tutorials out there:
