I have spent the previous night and today constructing a weapon model of the Heckler & Koch G11 for my game (the main reference image is linked). Simply put, I would like feedback on how the model looks: attention to detail, color schemes, etc. If you are a building expertise on Roblox, I highly welcome your feedback.
A Couple Important Notes
I do not specialize in construction/architecture. I would say I am more of a scripter. I tried my best to replicate the reference image while also adding my own twists.
I fully realize that there are some details of the model that are present/absent when comparing it to the reference image. Again, I do not specialize in building.
Here are the images of the G11 weapon model, taken from various angles:
It looks good so far. I recommend adding more detail in the handle so it can have a better look. The rest is looking good in my opinion. I like so much the details but it could be better if you add more. Keep up the good work!
The gun is a good effort, especially since you have mentioned in your opening minutes that you are more of a scripter.
One thing that I emphasize in my workflow is research, research, research.
Building a good gun model takes more than just skill, it also takes an ample amount of research and references from different angles in order to catch the different subtle details on a weapon you are trying to model.
A few things I can take note of based on your screenshots:
The G-11’s barrel typically does not extend past the weapon’s receiver. It is recessed within it.
The scope is a bit too tall and a bit too large. Not only that, if you refer to real world images of the weapon: the scope tends to look more ‘blocky’ with beveled or chamfered edges.
The ‘charging handle’ is a wound-up dial on the side of the weapon’s receiver, referring to an image of the weapon from an angle, you can see that the dial protrudes out of the receiver rather than being flush to it.
The magazine is too thick. G-11 magazines are really thin and long stick magazines, and up to 3 can be carried on the front of the weapon.
Apart from that, I don’t see any glaring details that would compromise too much on the weapon’s overall design aesthetic.
One important thing I’ll leave you with when it comes to gun building, especially on Studio, is to look at your references, and then try to break down different components or sections of the gun into simpler geometric shapes that you can form with things like cubes, cylinders, and wedges. You can even paste a giant image of your reference in studio and then trace / block-out the outline of your gun beforehand so you can get a good grasp of its general shape and proportions before adding the finer details.
