Ideas for an obby

Hi! Lately, I’ve been developing this little game I’m calling Obby Prodigy. I work on it in my free time but I wanted to make the obbys in it a bit more spicy. I’ve soaked up all the obby-making tips from this forum but I’ve get to find any original or rare ideas for actual obstacles in an obby.

Apart from parkour, avoiding kill blocks, or trickier things like going around walls, I can’t think of any obstacles to incorporate. Do you guys have any ideas or pointers to help me create unique, captivating, and fun obstacles?

Thanks

Maybe make it like a script makes a block spin around and the users have to jump over it. Or even walls that can push you off the edge while you are running past them. I actually used these two in one of my obbies and I was able to script it quite easily.

You could do a Fall Guys cannon mechanic, where the player has to navigate a path while dodging giant cannon balls.

You could always include moving parts/killparts. Also, you can add a conveyor which is pushing towards you but you have to move forward on it and then jump off.

my suggestion is to make your game unique, what makes the player want to play your game instead of playing mega obby or something else? add cool features (walljump, dashing or make the player pretty fast) and replayability or else they will just play it once and play other games.

tip: don’t make an obby

for real most of people that make obby’s they are boring, come on, obby’s in 2022 don’t have any difference in gameplay

obbys can still be fun, they just need a new formula then just getting from start to finish with one shot obstacles.
there’s still a lot of potential in the genre of obbys, since they have mostly all been the same without any new innovation since 2006/2007.
