This ugly thing appears when I try to type in between two characters, and it replaces a character when typing instead of typing in brackets (or between any two characters) brackets. It’s really annoying and I would like to turn it off.

I’m on laptop so I’m not sure where that key is. My laptop has a numpad if you need that context.
Then it should be next to the delete key
