Imagination Challenge 2021

Yes, if the video shows the entire creation, it should be okay

Just finished my animations, but for the dance, what classifies as a dance, does an emote (for example a celebration emote, that lasts 10 seconds) count?

Hi, I have one pretty big concern for the animation challenge.

The guidelines state that ā€œBoth animations must be created entirely in Roblox Studioā€ but my whole career has been built around using Maya and Blender, and half the animators I know on Roblox are in the same boat. I don’t have any rig to use in Roblox studio, so it would be pretty inconvenient to have to learn the whole process in studio where we could be using that time to animate.

The Build It Play It animation challenge didn’t have this requirement, and I’m wondering if this can be changed to allow more people to enter the contest! Thank you @bri9adeiro

Aren’t you supposed to use the R15 Dummy rig (that can be inserted from ā€˜Build Rig’ on the plugins section)

No, I’m sure there’s going to be a ton of people that already use the Moon Animator plugin with their own custom rigs. They will have a pretty significant advantage here!

Roblox will most likely be judging it on the animation, not the rig.

I completely understand that, but how am I meant to animate a Roblox rig that doesn’t even have IK legs? (Inverse Kinematics)

It’s near impossible to animate a proper good looking walk cycle let alone a whole 10-30 second dance with FK (Forward Kinematics) legs. The rig is a tool to make the animation so if that tool is lets say, broken or incomplete, then your animation won’t look good.

So please let us use Blender/Maya for this challenge! You will see a lot more and better quality submissions if you do @RockdetBoy

No, the rules say use R15. I think using a custom rig would get you disqualified.

Do I have to upload a video of the animation completed or the creation process (As this is my first time and will have loads of bumps and will have a long video).

You need to upload a unlisted video of the creation process of the walking and dance animation.

Another question, on animation editor, would 0:00 / 5:00 equal 10 seconds (sorry I’m new to animating).

I don’t think so. I believe 5:00 equals 5 seconds, so I recommend trying for now making 0:00 - 10:00 (10 seconds) or 0:00 - 30:00 (30 seconds). I did this while creating my walk and dance animation.

Heyy! For the walking animation, would you like the character to remain on the spot (kinda like moon walking??) or legitimately moving?

Hey!
In this case, it is up to you

Thanks so much! I’ve just entered a few submissions, wondering if confirmation will come when the event closes or during the event? Just making sure everything’s good to go.

I’m no professional, but I’m glad I could take part! I look forward to seeing how all these turn out later on at the fashion show! :raised_hands:

I second this notion! Restricting submissions to solely being created within the confines of Studio’s capabilities is only going to hinder the quality of the submissions for this contest. A vast number of animators in the Roblox development community, as Shift stated, utilize external software, such as Autodesk Maya & Blender; which are capable of R15 animations. I think it would be beneficial for everyone interested in this contest if this rule were to be re-evaluated, or at least explained further as to why it’s been established as such.

I accidentally deleted my creation process video before submitting it, I really hope that my entry to still valid.

Can you not recover it from recently deleted?

So how does this challenge work in the first place?

the default animator luckily has an ik option for R15 rigs

although yeah i agree this isnt exactly enough since itll still end up looking very linear compared to using outside programs
