(IMPORTANT) I need help with mesh please!

Hello. I am making a mesh in Blender 2.8, and I’ve spent about an hour or so working on it. I wanted to delete a set of vertices so I pressed “dissolve vertices”. I worked without the vertices for about 5 minutes, making several changes to the mesh. Then I noticed that the mesh was looking weird in the place where I dissolved the vertices, so I decided I want the vertices back. I pressed Cntrl+Z a bunch of times, but it didn’t undo quite all the actions up to the point when I dissolved the vertices. I don’t know what to do now, and I would hate to restart because I put a lot of work into the model. Please, help needed!

You can probably google the issue, Im sure theres hundreds of videos on youtube that can help with your issue

Hmmm… okay. Thanks for the help.

I just messed around with some stuff, and now I have to restart. It was such a good sword model that took me 1 and a half hours, but I forgot to save it  :sob: :sob:

I use Maya, but I’m assuming it still operates similar. You most likely either deleted your action history by accident or simply did too much work and the program isn’t able to recall your previous actions that far back. All modelers learn this lesson early on usually by making the exact same mistake, don’t worry.

I suggest saving versions the model or file before you do major adjustments to the model, just incase you ever need to revert back to the old version.

Thanks for the help, but I’ll keep trying. I spent soooo much time and effort, and I don’t want it to go down the drain. The stupid thing about this is that Blender autosaved all my work on different meshes, but not particularly on this one. What happened is I pressed a button and it took me to my previous mesh I was working on days ago. I spent 1.5 hours, if not more, making this sword mesh, and I was really happy with the way it turned out. I’m not about to give up, so I’ll just keep trying. So much for Blender’s Auto Save…

I usually don’t like depending on just autosave just because sometimes, like with you, it doesn’t save (same with in Roblox studio.) Autosave is good but a good thing to keep in mind is always try to keep a manual save file too and save every little bit when you’re satisfied.

Okay. Thanks. If I cannot find the solution to this, I will just be forced to restart… I hope you understand how much pain I’m feeling rn. :sob: :sob: :sob:

I feel ya man. I know how it is to lose progress, I’ve lost over 10 hours of progress before. Just keep going! :+1: :happy3:

Honestly, that advice is all I needed man! Thanks I feel better now.

No problem! :happy3: Never give up, just remember that for whatever happens.

Thank you so much! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I am now ready to retry, and make it even better!

Hey, I’ve also come across this problem. I can’t find anything to do about it. The best thing you can is to save a file whenever you hit a “checkpoint” in your model! If not then just try to pay super attention to what’s happening to avoid the problems in the future.

Essentially, you need to save your model before making drastic changes, as in blender you can only go back or “ctrl z” about 10 times.

Most likely you won’t be able to get your model back, but there is a slight chance that if you check “autosaves” that it will be there.

Yes thanks for your help! The problem is already solved, and i have already redone the mesh. I noticed that you said you can only press cntrl + z about ten times. Well i dont know if you know this but you can change the amount of undos in the “preferences” window under edit i think. Yea just a helpful tip! :))
