I think a toggle to be able to play unrated experiences from the very beginning would’ve been so much nicer instead of forcing it upon everyone by default!! I’m a grown man, I don’t need Roblox wagging a finger at me and restricting access to an unrated game because I might find something potentially rule-breaking. I promise I can handle it!
I don’t think the abandoned Roblox games from <2018 with <10k visits are going to pose a safety risk to a child. They need to focus on the real child safety risks that are running rampant on the platform right now on the front page instead of going after random parts of Roblox’s history back when its slogan was “Powering Imagination.” This whole thing makes me so unimaginably angry because my favorite types of games are the ones being affected by this.
I’ve played HUNDREDS of experiences, and for the past year, I’ve been keeping track of roughly how many unique ones I’ve played. I’m currently at 574(!!), and almost every single one of them are unrated due to their age and/or obscurity.
How many of those unrated games have I played contained something that violated guidelines? None!
How many games on the front page have I played contained something that violated Roblox’s guidelines? More than I can count!
The issue isn’t unrated experiences. It’s content that has been sitting right in front of Roblox’s face for years. I’ve never been exposed to real-life gore or directed to a barely disguised dating game as a result of joining an unrated experience. I have, however, been exposed to that kind of content by joining games that were recommended to me by Roblox!! (And oh, look, they even had their questionnaires filled out!)
We’re quite literally at risk of losing years’ worth of history, and in the end it isn’t even going to help protect the safety of children.
