Impossible to unlock Xbox achievement "Strength in Numbers"

Currently, on Xbox, the “Strength in Numbers” achievement is not unlocking after meeting the required conditions. The achievement description is “You joined an Xbox party and played Roblox.”, and before the bug was reported the requirements to unlock it were to play a Roblox game with a friend who is in an Xbox group chat with you.

System Information: This seems to be happening on all types of Xbox, but I personally tested on Xbox One Fat, Xbox One S and Xbox Series X.

Steps to reproduce (unfortunately they require two Xbox consoles, if anyone wants help verifying this PM me for my gamertag):

  1. Sign in to two Xbox consoles with two different accounts.
  2. Create an Xbox group chat with one account and have the other account to join it.
  3. Launch Roblox on both Xbox consoles.
  4. Join any Roblox game with one of the accounts.
  5. Have the second account join the ongoing game of the first account.
  6. This should have been enough to unlock the achievement, but it is not.

According to TrueAchievements (a community site that tracks achievements and syncs with Xbox player progress), the last tracked player to unlock this achievement did so on June 14, 2024, at 15:33 (the hour of unlocking is visible in the player profile).

Some extra points

I think it’s worth mentioning that some players (myself included) reached out to Xbox Support about this issue. One person actually received a somewhat more convincing answer, stating that after a developer analysis, on their words: “the issue originates from Roblox and the developers have the tools to fix it.” I’m pointing this out here because many players (again, myself included) tried reporting the issue through the Roblox Support form, but the response was that the issue is on Xbox’s side without further elaboration. I’m not trying to discredit the Support Team, but it would be interesting to know that a developer looked into the problem, rather than just a semi-automated support response saying they can’t help with the issue, even if it is just to get to the same conclusion.

Also, after browsing through topics in the forum, I found out that there are some difficulties in handling chat-related features and certain console functionalities due to privacy requirements and standards set by Xbox. So, I’m inclined to think that this may point that the problem is Roblox’s app sided as well.

Video reproducing the issue sent privately.

Hi, we spent a lot of time looking into why this achievement was broken back in the summer when this issue was raised. The Xbox API that we were using to get the Xbox party required for this achievement mysteriously stopped working, and we asked Microsoft about it and they also didn’t have a great answer for us.

We’ve talked about potential solutions to this issue, but we haven’t really decided on a way forward, so I don’t think this issue will be fixed in the near future. It’s likely that we will need to wait until we update to use the Xbox GDK to fix this achievement properly.

Any news on this? I was thinking about suggesting a complete change to the achievement requirements and description, like I’ve seen in other games when a feature was discontinued or something like what happened to this one. Do you think that’s a plausible possibility?

Thanks for the reply btw!

Sorry, I don’t have much news for you as this issue has pretty low prioritization.

I was thinking about suggesting a complete change to the achievement requirements and description

We definitely considered that possibility, with the main idea being that we could change it to work with Parties once that launches on Consoles. The two issues with that being 1. There is probably a requirement from Microsoft that says we can’t change achievement descriptions from when we declared them (would probably need to ask for an exception), and 2. Parties aren’t on Consoles yet.

Well, regarding point number 1, I’ve seen two occasions where MS allowed achievements to be changed: Gears 5 completely changed an achievement just because it was too hard to get, and Rocket League changed an achievement because a game functionality had been discontinued. I can’t say for sure because I honestly don’t know how this process works, but I’m sure a game as big as Roblox would manage to have a complete achievement revamp request accepted.
As for point number 2, if the change to the achievement eventually come with the Parties update in the future, that would be great.
For the time being, just knowing that this is in the backlog even with the lowest priority is a win.

Thanks for the answer again!

We’re currently looking into a solution to change the achievement to joining a connection in an experience. This may take some time to get to due to other priorities at the moment, and we’ll have to discuss with Microsoft whether we can change the achievement before we can confirm this change, but I think this a realistic path forward.

I just saw that we got called out for not fixing this yet and that’s totally legit.

BUT we’re actively working on the fix for this now. The new achievement text for Strength in Numbers will be as follows: Follow a Roblox connection into a Roblox experience.

We’re planning to make this change for both Xbox and PlayStation, and have already received permission from both Microsoft and Sony.

As for the timeline of these changes, we’re hoping to deliver these changes in October, with Xbox coming first and then PlayStation. I’ll leave any further updates if need be.

Hi everyone, I am rolling out the new Strength in Numbers on Xbox. It should be available over the next hour if there are no issues.

Just as an FYI, the change to Strength In Numbers on PlayStation will be held up for another one to two weeks as we try to get it through Sony’s testing.

Finally some people have been able to unlock the achievement again, but unfortunately some of us haven’t been able to make it work yet. Could you please confirm what exactly triggers it to unlock? I know the description is pretty straightforward, but I just want to make sure that we’re doing it properly.
Some people noticed that it seems to only work for players who haven’t played Roblox on Xbox before the update, if you could check on that would be awesome.

Thanks for all the effort so far!

You can achieve Strength in Numbers on Xbox in the following ways:

  1. Press the Join button when viewing a connection on your connections list on the Home page.
  2. Join the game of an Xbox friend who is also a connection with you on Roblox through the Xbox OS.

Some people noticed that it seems to only work for players who haven’t played Roblox on Xbox before the update, if you could check on that would be awesome.

By “before the update,” do you mean when I sent my previous message or another update?

I just deleted my last follow-up because we finally managed to unlock it! It seems that, coincidentally, Xbox had a major outage related to unlocking achievements right when your update rolled out.

Thank you so much for your effort. I know it’s such a secondary feature, but there’s a community that really cares about it, and on their behalf, I want to thank you again for taking the time to fix it!

We can finally close this topic. Best regards!
