Improved Access Settings

The access settings for games are, in my opinion, somewhat primitive. I think that it would be really useful if we could have more configurable access settings.

Currently, the access setting for games looks something like this:

This dropdown has two options for access.
[ul]
[li]Everyone[/li]
[li]Friends[/li]
[/ul]

This is rather limited, so I would suggest the following options for the access setting:

The “Only Myself” option could be named something different; I just picked it because I didn’t know of a place where ROBLOX had specified an equivalent option.

I feel as if this change would be very useful. Currently, you can essentially do all of these things; albeit with a little bit of extra work. However, I’d like this to be an actual feature, rather than just kicking a player if you deem that they are not allowed access. The reason that I feel simply kicking a player is insufficient is because the player will still have technically “played” the game, hence enabling them to leave a rating. In addition, many users do not know how to implement such functionality into their games.

The ability to place users on a whitelist/blacklist for the game would also be great. We should have the ability to manually allow or ban users from our games.

The last thing that I would suggest is in respect to particularly group games. In addition to the options that already exist for group games, it would be useful if for group games, there was a dropdown option that created an additional input field to enter a required RoleSet number that a user would have to be in order to gain access to the game.

Lastly, I’m putting this thread under Web Features, even though it’s more of a combination of different teams.

Thanks!

What we need is the personal server blacklist/whitelist for all places – not this.

This would be nice especially because if you limit it to specific people via a script in game, they can still dislike it for no reason after being kicked.

Thanks for your opinion, but I disagree. :stuck_out_tongue:
This would be extremely useful, in my opinion. I don’t see how just a blacklist and whitelist could compensate.

Why not just a checklist instead?

A checklist with these options would have some compatibility issues… but, I suppose that it’s a possibility. Any way that this feature could be implemented with these options is good enough for me.

You can whitelist/blacklist all friends:

It’s exactly what you’re looking for. You get absolute control over who has access to the place. It does need to be updated with followers and people you follow, but even without them it’s much better than a dumbed-down dropdown list.

I certainly misinterpreted what you said – that’s a pretty good idea. However, I think that I’d rather just a simple access system than a ranking, whitelist, and blacklist system. This would be pretty neat for something like a Personal Server, though.

Those are the access settings for a personal server

And if you don’t need that much control then don’t use the advanced control. Just because you won’t doesn’t mean other people won’t.

I agree that it’s very useful, but it doesn’t have some of the access modes I listed. Perhaps a combination of the two ideas would work nicely.

Though, I’m not sure why you’d need either. How could locking based on people you follow / your followers be used to benefit you?

I think that it would be useful simply to allow that level of restricted access – not restricted to all users, but rather restricted still. I see your point, though; they’re a bit unnecessary.

I agree with you now, I suppose; the system we have for personal servers would be great for regular games.

EDIT: Whitelist/blacklist feature suggestion added to OP. Thanks, Echo.
