Improving Creator Marketplace Search with Spell Correction & Facet Suggestions

Hi creators,

The Content Understanding & Creator Marketplace teams joined forces to launch two improvements to search on Creator Marketplace! Spell Correction and Facet Suggestions!

  • Spell Correction catches common spelling errors and suggests a correction.

  • Facet Suggestions provide suggested terms to help narrow your search or suggest related ideas.

Together, spell corrections and facet suggestions make search more efficient and help you find what you are looking for!

How can I see Spell Correction & Facet Suggestions?

Spell corrections have been live for searches on the Creator Marketplace Website and in the Studio Toolbox for the past few weeks so you may have already seen them. When a search query is identified as misspelled you will be prompted with a suggested correction on the search results page that, when clicked, updates the results based on the corrected query.

Facet suggestions are now live for searches on the Creator Marketplace website. To create facet suggestions, we process an incoming search query and identify potential terms to narrow down the search with additional attributes or suggest adjacent terms that may help you explore the search space.

What is next for Spell Correction & Facet Suggestions?

Currently, Spell Correction only supports English language queries for users whose account language is set to English. We will be expanding to more languages early next year.

We believe there is a lot of potential for Facet Suggestions to help you navigate the diverse content in the Creator Marketplace. In 2024, we will be expanding the types of facets we suggest to include ones that let you easily switch between asset types when we think a better asset type fits the search term or ones that can directly filter results on certain criteria (for example only see skyboxes in the Model category).

In addition, we will be rolling out Facet Suggestions to Toolbox early next year.

Let us know what you think!

We are always looking to increase the utility of search in Toolbox and Creator Marketplace. Please let us know if you have any thoughts on how Spell Correction, Facet Suggestions, and other search features could help!

Thank you.

FAQ

Why don’t I see facets on some of my searches?

  • Our system is designed to display facets only when it is confident that it can offer you valuable and useful recommendations. That said, we are continuously improving our model to ensure we are providing you with the most relevant and helpful suggestions.

Where are Facet Suggestions launched?

  • Facet Suggestions have been launched on Creator Marketplace web and will be rolling out to Studio Toolbox early next year.

My search had a misspelled word but I didn’t see a spelling correction. Why not?

  • First, confirm your account language - currently spelling correction is only live for users whose account language is set to English.

Second, the spelling correction model takes into account a dictionary of words that may not be English but are unique to Roblox (however this dictionary is not exhaustive).

Finally, the spelling correction model can make mistakes. If you see something that should be corrected, please let us know!

How do I check or change my account language?

  • You can follow this help page to check or change your account language. Currently, Spell Correction only supports English language queries for users whose account language is set to English.

When can we expect spelling correction to work for languages besides English?

  • We will be rolling out more languages early in 2024.

I appreciate this update! With the ever-expanding marketplace becoming harder to navigate with each uploaded item, QoL updates prove to be more and more helpful.

Thank you, I cant remember how many times I spelled “rits” instead of “rigs”

Like “datastore” and “leaderstats?”

That’s exactly what we were hoping to help, let us know if you see any words missing.

When can we sort by most recently created again? You took that away a few years ago and I want it back.

Finally. I hated the autocorrect that you literally had no control over. This is a marginal improvement but nowhere close to perfect. Please continue improving this.

Thank you, the wizard community greatly appreciates this update. Some people just don’t understand how hard it is to cast certain complex spells.

Jokes aside this is very nice! my current keyboard has a double press issue on the switches (they are not replaceable) so i occasionally type letters twice. This spell checking feature is very useful thanks!

As for facet suggestions are there any plans to add them for audio search? i think it would be pretty useful. Example:

When i search for “Ambience”, would be pretty cool to have some suggestions like

  • “Dark”
  • “Happy”
  • “Mysterious”

Or something to filter out types such as “SFX” and “Music”

Because when i for example; search “Thunder” would be pretty useful if i could specify if i want either SFX or music only!

Other than that, very good update, thanks again! Quality of life updates are always welcome!

Shoutout to Carx21 for making a guest appearance in this post.

In what ways did you find sorting by creation date useful?

So I can find recently-updated models as opposed to older ones. Let’s say I want to find a recently-created footstep script. I would be recommended scripts from years ago as opposed to ones made more recently. This could go for anything, really.

Small suggestions that might help with searches:

  • Remove the amount of tags someone can put on their item. It seems that waaaaay to many copied items (or just trash models) are placed in the toolbox with 20 different tags that the person fills with random popular words which causes the item comes up in pretty much every search we do.

  • 4 or 5 well thought out tags created by someone placing a new item on the site would go much further towards being able to find it.

  • I understand that trying to clean up the insanely overpopulated/copied inventory of the toolbox is not an easy task, but maybe some sort of saving limit for an account where the creation of multiples of the exact same item with the same name gets them shut down from saving any more items for a month might help.

And if you search with a English word?

Take my words with a grain of salt as I haven’t used the Creator Marketplace in a while, but for me creation date is useful when I’m searching for things that utilize new engine features. For example there are many Zombie models on the Toolbox, but if I wanted one that uses skinned meshes I would find better results if I saw newer models first.

Currently it will only apply spell correction if your account language is set to English and your search terms are detected to be English.

Here it detects if it is in English. Why do you check this too? It’s useless(?) and blocks developer.

I really want to thank the person who got this idea and all whom participated in developing it <3

Quick clarification: The detection is based only on the alphabet at the moment. The model is based on English language vocabulary and Roblox specific terms. If a word is not in these vocabularies, the spell correction tries to correct it unless it is written in non-Latin alphabet. However, to avoid overcorrecting for languages other than English with Latin alphabet (e.g. Spanish), user’s account language is considered to be the default language for that user and, therefore, used to enable spell checking for that user.

Thank you for the suggestions. Regarding tags, the current version of Facet Suggestion does not consider user provided tags. It is solely based on the query in this version. We are planning to expand it to extract the facets from the assets themselves and if we decide to incorporate user provided tags, we make sure they are matched against the asset and pass a certain quality threshold to reduce tag spamming effects. One way to ensure quality might be, as you suggested, limiting the number of tags.

This sounds like a nice feature, but when I search for something like “GUI” what comes up is things with “Guy” in the name without any prompting whether that’s what I meant, making all the results useless.

I’d very much like to have whatever magic you demonstrate in the clips where the results match the actual string you searched for and not something entirely unrelated.

I only started Roblox development a bit over a month ago, but I’ve been entirely unable to find anything useful in the creator marketplace because of the way it returns results that don’t have my search term(s) and aren’t related to it/them in any way.
