Bitcoin: Money for idiots.

Nope.

The reasons are buried somewhere in the Terms of Service, but I can tell you straight up that asking for real money (bitcoin, game/giftcards, paypal, or real-real money) on ROBLOX is way not allowed. Even if you can figure out how to script it, you should not actually do it. It falls under what we in the office call “Real World Trading” which means trading real things for ROBLOX things, and it’s not allowed. When we find people doing RWT they get banned, assets taken away, account deleted or worse.

ah, okay.

The Terms of Service needs to be updated to clarify that so people don’t get confused. Especially clarify not trading in other “virtual currencies”.

It’s there, second point:

External Media

ToS is specially written in a way, that it covers as many different things as possible, with small amount of text. If they’d start describing every little thing you can’t do, it would be waste of time and space.

I don’t get all your guys hate for this or uyjulian. This is still an interesting idea, even if you personally don’t like BitCoin, and BitCoin is a pretty darn real currency right now.

But if you don’t do anything with assets…
you can avoid the ToS?
My script doesn’t do anything with assets.

It simply get’s annoying to see majority of his posts to be about bitcoins.

Same point.

This is exactly the same underlying topic. This is a forum for discussing:

A cool thing you just found

The cool thing you found is the same scripting topic as before. Stop making new threads about it.

That’s when using roblox-related material.
Not inside roblox?

I think it’s possible to avoid that and forth point by not using roblox assets give or take.

It’s not bound to assets, it’s about anything you do on roblox as it says “activities”. So that means no money giving for what they’ve said or any reason you’d pay other person.

If Reese told you to stop, I’d stop…

Can somebody just lock this now?

Still not locked 8 years later.

I hope you held onto your Bitcoin from that time until today.

I’m trying to understand something: could I create a digital currency that functions exclusively on Roblox? My main question is whether this would violate their Terms of Service. I recently saw a post discussing someone implementing a blockchain-based coin within Roblox, which led me to ponder the complexities of transaction validation. I’ve attempted to work with Ed25519, and it appears that Luau and the Roblox engine aren’t well-suited for handling extensive mathematical scripts required for such operations.

Making the first blockchain and cryptocurrency on Roblox

From my limited research, I haven’t found a cryptocurrency that’s purely in Lua, just a project of one. I think the best option would be to translate a pure Python cryptocurrency into pure Luau.

If you are looking for it, it may help you.

I enjoy trying to develop a cryptocurrency on Roblox as a hobby, mainly because I play WoS (Waste of Space) and would like to attempt in-game trades using a cryptocurrency. Building a prototype of this in Roblox Studio is the first step. Should one wish to pursue this, the following structure could be considered:

  • Roblox (receives the already validated transaction, creates the block with transactions, performs the Proof-of-Work (PoW), and saves it using Roblox’s DataStore)
  • External API (receives transactions, verifies them with the public key, sends them to Roblox, and communicates with other APIs – each developer could have their own API to verify the existence of certain transactions on the blockchain and release a specific in-game item, or function as a cryptocurrency node)
  • External Wallet (holds the seed, signs the transaction, verifies the balance, and broadcasts to the node/API).

If I succeed in completing this project, I intend to release it as 100% open source.

Your idea is pretty clever, but there’s a huge elephant in the room, Roblox can just delete your entire project whenever they feel like it. You’re basically building a currency on someone else’s platform who has zero obligation to keep it running.

Bitcoin works because no single company can shut down the whole network. But with your Roblox crypto, one company controls everything. They could wake up tomorrow and decide crypto stuff violates their TOS, and your entire blockchain is gone along with any value people put into it.

It’s not really a cryptocurrency at that point, it’s more like fancy game tokens that could disappear at any moment. The decentralization is what makes crypto actually valuable, and you can’t have that when everything depends on Roblox’s servers and their goodwill.

Roblox probably won’t be thrilled about people creating their own currencies since they already have Robux. You’d basically be competing with their official monetization system, which is a quick way to get banned.
