In-Game Lore: Detailed or PG?

Sup. I am going to assume some, if not most, of you have heard of the game called Apex Legends before. It’s a great game and all, but its in-depth lore and detailed backstories tied in with the game characters are very interesting and fun to delve into. So, I thought it would be pretty awesome if I could make a game (not related to Apex Legends for obvious reasons) with detailed lore like this.

…and then it hit me.

I want to grab the player’s attention and make them relate to the story to keep them interested and enticed. And by that, I mean I want to create serious backstories. Some 13+ stuff that is dark in some parts. Most of it won’t be about blood and guts oozing out of people, just dark themes about life in and of itself. But, how would I achieve something like this on a platform made especially for children? Yeah, I do know people over the age of 9 exist, don’t complain about it. I want to make a detailed and retable tale to tell, but include some elements to REALLY push the limits and make it feel more human.

So, with all that said, here are my main questions:

  • Are things like this even allowed on ROBLOX?
  • Is this a good idea or not worth the time?

Thanks for any help. :hugs:

As long as you follow ToS then I think it’s fine, Roblox has no problem with dismembering body parts like in some games.

You can’t grab everyone’s attention by having them relate to “dark” stories/lore like you’re creating because not everyone has had said experiences.

Even though that way of grabbing attention won’t work, you still will get a lot of players invested in your game if you do this the right way.

Take Batman as an example. He had a horrific and dark backstory and even though not everyone can relate to it, people still (mostly, lol) liked the movies.

So yes, I think if you abide by Roblox ToS this is a good idea and worth your time, if you do it right.

Makes sense. Not sure why I said “relate”, but I like your idea of people getting invested instead. Thanks for the help!
