In Plain Sight 2 - Rewrite Update (v2.0.0)

It’s worth noting that due to the game being fully rewritten, this is not everything that has changed. There will likely be small adjustments that were intentional or not. When remaking everything from the ground up, there’s bound to be some discrepancies when compared to the old version.


General

  • The whole game has been rewritten from the ground up!
  • On average, FPS (frames per second) increased 76% from the old version
  • All sounds are now volumetric (most notable with camera lasers)
  • Bubble chat is now enabled (will not show up for cameras)
  • Private server changes
    • The max cash cap has been increased from $20,000 to $60,000
    • Statistics like money made or missions do not progress
  • Implemented a new custom anti-cheat, Hex Anti-Cheat (HAC)
    • There will still be cheaters, but less
    • HAC will be continuously updated in the future to provide more accurate detection
    • Make sure to report any suspicious players or activities to staff
  • Upgraded to the new Roblox chat and redid the visual appearance of the chat tags
  • Changed the prices of the game passes
    • VIP: 149 → 249
    • 3x Map Voting: 49 → 149
    • Rainbow Lasers: 29 → 49
  • Lots of new music throughout the game
    • Rebalanced the volume of the older music
  • Fixed a vast quantity of bugs, like so many (beyond comprehension)

Missions

  • Added timed missions (1 day and 1 week)
  • Completing a mission within the timeframe rewards you with a certain amount of cash
  • The first mission slot is always the same “play 5 rounds” mission
  • Added a new gamepass to expand the number of mission slots from 4 to 6 (R$299)
  • Added a new product to refresh your current missions and get new ones (R$29)
  • Mission progress can be viewed by the board in the lobby while not in a private server

Lobby

  • The tutorial is no longer part of the game loop
    • There is now a new button to access the new tutorial at the end of the road
    • Players joining for the first time will be prompted to watch this new tutorial
    • Removed the game intro prompt
  • The lobby now has a completely new UI
    • New settings menu
      • Added new master, SFX, and music volume sliders options
      • Added a skip voting option
      • Removed the game intro prompt and music toggle options
  • Map and entrance voting is now done through a completely new UI
    • Entrance voting is now also done each round
    • The map voting building is now closed (for now…)
  • Leaderboards
    • The player icons are now colored to display their order (first, second, third)
    • The player icons no longer occasionally glitch out when a player leaves
    • The currently playing leaderboards’ names have been clarified
  • Spectating cameras
    • Much more simple and responsive UI
    • Now displays the currently spectated camera’s username and equipped camera name

  • Discounts
    • Eastern Time is now used instead of UTC
    • The server will send a chat message when discounts go live

    • Added a skins button to select between skin variants
    • Added a label to display the amount of a given character you have
  • All characters now have new skin variants
    • Emerald skins require 15 copies and ruby skins require 30 copies
    • Gold (and subsequently emerald and ruby) skins have been redesigned for optimization and visuals
  • Camera shop
    • Improved visuals when selecting a camera in the inventory
    • Completely new interface for purchasing a camera

  • The axe and helmet items now can be stolen consistently on Mansion
  • Updated the lighting in the lobby on Museum
  • Updated all map and entrance images
  • Map loading time has been increased to cut down on network lag
    • In other words, the ping will not spike as high when loading a map

Round

  • There is now always a 10 second grace period before cameras spawn into the round
  • Rounds now end when the timer reaches zero, without delay
  • Entrance cutscenes
    • Fully remade entrance cutscene for cameras
    • Added sounds to the thief entrance cutscenes
  • Thieves can now crawl while downed
    • You have 3 walk speed and cannot jump, climb, etc.
  • Downed thieves are now highlighted (to other thieves) along with having the revive button
  • Changes to equipped thieves, cameras, or skins will not apply to the upcoming around if not equipped before the NPCs start loading
  • Camera location and thief drop off circles have been visually touched up
  • Updated the thief UI
    • Hearts are now displayed with one UI element, rather than multiple hearts
      • Numerically displays your health and max health including a progress bar
    • The ability button has been redesigned to include the keyboard shortcut (E) when on PC
    • The ability button is no longer clickable when on PC
    • When escaping, the game now tells you about the base $500 bonus
  • Updated the camera UI
    • New camera location transition animation
    • The ability button has been redesigned to include the keyboard shortcut (E) when on PC
    • Removed the large amounts of redundant text on the edges of the screen
    • Redesigned the zoom display to be on the left hand side of the screen
    • Moved the numerous pop-ups to better positions
  • Mobile improvements
    • The thief hearts have been moved to the middle of the screen to not be blocked by hands
    • The thief ability button gets repositioned to better suit hand positions
    • Camera locations need to be looked at to switch to them
      • A button appears on screen to switch the location
    • There is now a new fire button and ability usage button
    • Zooming is now done by sliding over the new magnification bar on the left side of the screen
  • End results
    • The cutscenes no longer use actual player models and thus are not glitchy
    • New UI along with a new scoreboard
    • Polished the cutscenes
  • Thieves no longer sometimes glitch or teleport when picking up an item
  • The vault and case items are no longer classified as stealable items
  • Interacting can only be done one action at a time
    • For example, thieves can’t drop off loot and revive at the same time
    • Likewise, thieves can only revive 1 person at a time
  • Dropped money bags and thrown bags now scale in physical size with the weight that was in them
  • Thieves now throw money bags (when depositing) with much more consistency
  • Thieves no longer slow down their movement when entering maps
  • Camera models more accurately reflect what camera players can see
  • Camera hatches no longer occasionally become inaccessible
  • Thief animations no longer occasionally get stuck playing
  • Completely remade the camera laser hit registration
    • Shots that land on a thief on the camera player’s screen will consistently hit the target
    • No more green hit indicators if the shot didn’t do damage
  • Data saving is now much more reliable
  • Improved camera laser visuals

Thieves

  • All thieves now have a hidden max health cap which is double the maximum normal amount of max health the thief could have
    • Still allows going over the normal max health for fun moments, but not too far such as to be unfair
  • Visual changes
    • Updated the thumbnails for Mr. Tentacles, Godfather, Detective James, Achilles, and Crystalflxme
    • Updated the clothes for Plague Doctor, Doug, Grim Reaper, and Greymane
    • Remodeled King Midas, Khadgar, and Shadow
  • Smokebomb and Smokebomb+
    • Spawns less spheres, but the spheres are larger and less transparent, being more efficient
    • The spheres now spawn randomly in the rectangular region above the smokebomb model itself rather than being biased to one side (much more consistent cover)
    • Thieves can now move and jump while tossing a smokebomb
  • Ronald now has a new ability icon for Smokebomb+
  • Aloha now has a new ability: Lū’au
    • Creates a tropical distraction
    • Cooldown of 25 seconds
  • CRD-B4RD now will always choose a new morph, otherwise the ability usage will be stopped
  • Khadgar can now block any instance of damage, no matter the type
  • Formula Zero and Mr. Tentacles are now much easier to control during their abilities
    • Adjusted Mr. Tentacles’ ability animation to prevent frequently tipping over and getting stuck
  • Limps can only use Hoarde while standing on the ground
  • Santa can now move and jump while using Ho Ho Ho!
  • Doug
    • Can now stay in the ground forever
    • Must stay in the ground for 5 seconds before he can get out of the ground
  • Dracula and Medusa’s abilities now reliably pick the closest NPC in a 6 stud radius
  • Wanda now uses the general notification system for when cameras switch locations
  • Ironclad’s Blacksmith ability now has a 2 second cooldown when initially starting, with the normal cooldown being for when the ability ends
  • Lazarius can no longer reach 0 hearts by reviving, only losing hearts if above 1 heart
  • Scavenger’s Value now picks 10 non-stacked items and 6 stacked items to be worth more
  • Dibs’ Robbery now properly displays the vortex on the floor
  • Diego’s Treasure Map
    • The range of effect is now a sphere instead of a cube
    • The radius has been increased to 15 studs, from 10 studs
  • Chase
    • Consistently snitches on target, unlike before
    • Now has leg animations when using Snitch while moving
    • On PC, Snitch now instantly highlights the NPC or thief that the mouse is hovering over
    • On mobile, Snitch instantly highlights the NPC or thief that the player camera is looking at
  • Grim Reaper’s ability Soul Harvest now grants double the cash from reviving, rather than a flat $300 plus the bag’s contents
  • Great Pumpkin’s Ooze
    • Covers more of the center of the camera’s screen
    • Improved visuals
  • Detective James now uses highlights to see cameras through walls with differing colors for each camera
  • Crystalflxme’s description has been updated
  • The Statue’s animations are more consistent
  • Mr. V’s Service Unavailable
    • Much more consistent
    • Now randomly moves all cameras, rather than the nearest camera
  • Murphy’s disguise is now removed when taking any type of damage, rather than direct laser shots

Cameras

  • All character sounds (footsteps, jumping, etc.) are now muted for cameras
    • While I (Crystalflame) understand that this was a neat camera strategy, I just don’t think it’s a good direction for high-level play
    • In the future, I plan to address this by experimenting with new gameplay elements to allow for more high-level camera tricks while staying in the realm of an “intended” feature
  • Improved Explosive Shot visuals
  • Assassin now deletes the NPC being looked at when activated, rather than needing to fire
  • Exterminator
    • The gas bomb is now a projectile that can be launched predictably
    • The gas bomb projectile now disappears after 16 seconds, activating after 2 seconds
    • The poison gas now moves with the gas bomb
  • With Death Ray equipped, the ability button and heat meter no longer appear
  • Radar
    • When tracked items are stolen, a sound effect is now played
    • Tracked items now additionally have a marker on top of them
    • Now uses the general notification system to inform of the alarm
    • The alert now goes off as soon as the item starts being interacted with
  • Witch’s Hallow’s Curse now only works on non-downed thieves in a round every 5 to 10 seconds
  • Updated Clown’s Explosive Shot sound effect
  • Spidey
    • The web is now randomly rotated
    • Thieves in the web now move at 3 walk speed and have a jump power of 2
  • Annihilator’s Launch Nuke sound effect has changed
  • Incinerator’s fire hitbox is now much more reliable
