Is it better to use R6 or R15?
Wondering if there is any difference in the popularity of the game if you use R6 or R15. -
I am making a round based game. A cartoony game with animals and stuff. Until now i have used R6 for easier animation but want to know if publishing the game on R6 can affect the performance of it.
If yes i want to change it to R15 before i am to deep into development.
I think most people use R15 nowadays, and (sadly) this is the direction Roblox is heading to. You will probably want to offer compatibility for both, if possible. I am not sure if there are performance differences in using R6 vs R15.
If you are making a competitive game, I would suggest R6 so every avatar is the same size and noone has an advantage/disadvantage because of how small/big their avatar is.
Best option is to just support both thats what I usually do. It might take more work but it’ll make everyone happy. Another option would be to support one type and then later on make support for the other.
It’s kind of dependant,
you obviously answered one of the pros of R6 but if you’re swapping to R15 then you’re (almost) on the same level developing a “outside roblox” game, R15 is complex but not really far too complicated as how developers outside would make a game, it doesn’t take longer to do any single thing modifying rigs or do anything on it but for beginners you’ll struggle even more if time is what you’d value
if your game is just about competitive then pick either R6 or R15, these rlly don’t matter unless you feel like body parts are often abused and you don’t want to moderate (though you can just add a filter but that’s a waste of time)
and if you feel like R15 still wastes your time a lot then stay with R6 instead of relying what today’s market demand for, e.g Fisch isn’t about competitive but uses R6 cuz it’s faster to implement features
r6 is overall better for doing things because:
-clothing is not warped
-r6 characters are easier to work around
-r6 feels more roblox-y
-r6 characters have less parts, therefore less lag (barely noticable but it’s there)
-no stupid packages that make you tiny
i’m certain roblox doesn’t allow 3d clothing onto r6 because they desperately want people to use rthro and r15
