Incompatible GPU driver detected

Currently, as of 4/8/2025, whenever I open Roblox, whether it is by opening the “Roblox Player” shortcut, or joining an experience through the website, this error will always appear:

This never happened prior to release 688. As soon as I updated to Roblox v688 today I started getting this error, so I believe this is a new Roblox bug. I am on the latest driver for my GPU and I do not see any reason why Roblox would suddenly choose to drop support for it.

This error does not prevent me from playing Roblox. I can simply press “OK” and the message will go away.

System information

OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 16 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
GPU Driver: GeForce Game Ready Driver 572.83

For staff: Log files are attached here.

What I’ve tried

  • Restarting my PC.
  • Reinstalling my graphics drivers.
  • Installing the latest Windows updates.
  • Reinstalling Roblox.

Expected behavior

I should not be getting this error whenever I open Roblox.

This happens to me too on occasion, though never while in studio funnily enough, whereas usually most of my problems with Roblox are in studio. Though you should probably send application logs in the OP.

Are you sure the Roblox engine is still rendering with the GPU at a normal rate?

Good point, added log files for staff.

Yes, everything seems to be running fine.

Make sure Roblox is running on the correct gpu, it could be running on integrated graphics for some reason, you should be able to check that in Task Manager under the gpu engine in the processes tab once you see what number (usually gpu 0 or 1) go to the performance tab and check which gpu is which if the one that is running on Roblox is integrated make sure you are using the correct hdmi port on the back of the pc (if its a desktop pc)

It is the correct GPU.

I started receiving the same message recently, it makes no sense because I have one of the newer graphics cards alongside latest driver updates installed. Despite the message, the GPU is still used.

Anyone managed to fix this issue?

Question about the issue; are any of you experiencing “pixelation” while playing a Roblox game?

Recommend rolling back driver versions; Nvidia have screwed the pooch with the latest drivers since RTX 5000 got released and the entire games industry has spent months trying to get on-top of the issue only for them to realise that there’s nothing they can do about this as the issue is fundamentally a driver issue on Nvidia’s part.

I’ve also been experiencing this error notification. Although I don’t think it’s caused any issues in-game, it has me a bit worried due to the fact I also have a similar graphics card; the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER

I will have a look, I’m not aware of us changing any code. But I will look and report back with findings

So I had a look around the code, but it looks this message box is not coming from Roblox. The message is coming from the system itself.

Other applications can have the same issue. For example windows explorer: Redirecting

The general recommended approach seems to be to reinstall graphics drivers, some recommendations are with “clean installation” checkbox checked.

If this does not work for people it would be good to know the exact graphics card with the exact driver version people are seeing the issue with. That way if the issue persists we can order the graphics cards in question and test locally.

Thanks for taking the time to look through this issue. I went ahead and did a clean installation of my graphics driver and Explorer notification doesn’t show on launch anymore. So, performing a clean installation seems to fix the notification.

Thank you for updating the forum with that information!

For some reason I’m not getting the error message anymore.

I just got to my PC and I was going to try the “clean installation” as suggested earlier, but right before I was about to do that, I tried opening Roblox, and the error did not appear. I’m still not getting the error no matter how many times I re-open Roblox. So it seemed to have fixed itself…?
