Introduction
Welcome to Builder Academy. This post is to teach you how to build in general and here are some tips and tricks for you to use to make commission level work. Now, I don’t really consider myself as some sort of guru or expert in the field. However, I have - what I would consider - a large chunk of knowledge about building, and I would like to share them with you. This is because the first time I did building, I thought it would be an amazing idea to start straight off into commissions without learning a thing. This is the worst possible thing you can do as a builder or any sort of commissioner offering his/her service.
Now that’s out of the way, let me bombard you with my knowledge about my craft.
Interface
This will be your home from now on. Enjoy it when you can.
Basics
Consider these main 4 tools to be your living room, your dining room, your kitchen and your bedroom.
You are learning for free, so there is no bathroom. Build your own.
Oh, you don’t know how to? Well you’ve come to the right place.
Select [F1]
‘F1’ is the keybind for the Select tool. Keybinds for the building tools are by far the easiest to learn.
- When a part is clicked using the part tool, a blue cubic outline will surround the part that is selected. Hovering over the part will create a slightly thicker outline.
During the use of the Select tool, your options are to select/deselect a part or a model, and to drag parts or models. To drag parts/models, hold down your main mouse button while hovering over the part/model you want to interact with, then while holding it, move the mouse itself.
Why are dragging parts useful?
When duplicating models such as trees, rocks and other natural things, you need them to have a natural placement around an area. This is to show authentic nature placement.
And of course, when you want to move anything in general, dragging using the select tool will be your best friend.
Move [F2]
- When a part is selected using the Move tool, 6 arrows will appear around the object. Pulling and pushing on them changes their position.
Scale [F3]
- The most important part of building! This is the cornerstone of all builders and is the most useful tool in the world!!
Enthusiasm and the sudden yearly update jump out of the way, I will show you the different scale types.
Shift - Retains the shape when scaling
Ctrl - Scales the nodes in the same axis

Rotate [F4]
Rotate I think is the second most important object manipulation tool in roblox.
Now the humble Pivot tab. It’s new and I myself do not use it. Its mostly a nuisance.
As you can see, editing the pivot edits the central point where the part will rotate. Turning on snap creates a uniform grid, making pivot placement easier. Turning off snap does not. A bug with the “Reflect” Plugin is that when moving objects, it does not move the pivot point, hence a manual pivot point reset is needed.
Holding Tab - Creates a pivot point closest to the mouse
