Hi all! We have just updated Ceramic Tiles, Clay Shingles and Roof Shingles so that they now tile correctly. Thanks for your feedback on this! cc. @Spectaqual, @CaptBeatty, @SaintofHavoK
We’re reviewing other points of feedback we’ve received on this thread and will follow-up.
1: why is it blue though? i get it theyre supposed to be shadow, but why blue instead of black…
2: why is it piss yellow though? i dont even understand how this happened, or what it was supposed to be
You’re right on the blue shadows, which I just think are a stylistic choice, but I think the yellow is just because of your lighting.
It’s actually already visible in-game, and it was when they released them if I recall correctly. I immediately started using them in my showcase, and they were visible in-game there.
Huh, weird. I can see the cardboard material in my game just fine. Maybe only some of them work, or maybe they removed them. I don’t know.
This is probably A/B testing? Where only a select users will see it and others will not so the engineers can see if there’s any problems related to the materials before shipping it out from beta.
Thank you. I hope more updates like this come to platform.
Yea, for me in roblox studio is working and in game the materials doesn’t works
@LightBeamRays While this is great, there is one material that is sorely missing from terrain. That’s the gravel texture.
Consider this: When working with water environments using terrain, the bottom of bodies of water (especially waterfall plunge pools and rivers), the choices of what to put on the bottom of these water features is limited. Currently, we have rock, and mud being the main choices. But, the afore mentioned environments do not have much silt in those areas due to water flow, so a gravel texture would be nice to have. Such a texture can be enhanced by adding small rocks and boulders to the bottom.
Here’s some images illustrating what I am talking about. These are from a Google Image search with the term “river shoreline”.
As one can see from the images, the shorelines consist of mud, sand, gravel, and rock. Since Roblox is attempting to become more realistic with the rendering engine, I think that gravel would be a nice addition to the available textures for terrain.
What do you think?
These are really useful new materials!
Can I ask what the main limitations you currently face with adding support for the light refracting properties of terrain water to use in ordinary use cases. (ie: custom materials for baseparts)
Terrain water uses a highly specialised material when sat next to the rest of the material roster but has endless applicable uses that developers have been dying to get their hands on for years. Having tools to distort light in this fashion would greatly improve the visual quality of games produced on roblox.
It’s so disappointing that terrain water is the only actor in studio that can use these properties as it is now beginning to become obsolete with the surge of amazing custom water systems that use more complicated displacement formulas and are more performant than voxel terrain.
I’d be interested to hear back from you because if this technology is any way plausible, we would be eager to start creating!
The materials are in Studio Beta which means that they are not yet in production and they are only available in Studio at this time. We’re still making updates to the materials based on the feedback received before we can make them available in production. We’ll update as soon as the new edits are ready.
Thanks for this material request and sharing about your desired use case! I’ll add it to our options for future base materials.
How long do you think that take?
So when are the materials going to be out? It has been 3 months. It shouldn’t take that long to “Make updates” which probably consist of changing the texture size, color, and physical properties.
Edit: It looks like the materials are out now so I guess they heard my RANT
Nevermind take as much time as you need guys. Anyone who wants to use the materials, I just ripped the textures from this page and pasted them into a material variant. Thanks for NOTHING!!!
these materials finally got their upgrade, nice
