Introducing Disaster Island!

So as those of you who have been on these forums for longer probably know, Disaster Island has been a long time coming- I came up with the concept of the game… over a year ago :joy:

After quite a bit of compromising and working, myself any the team finally pushed out an early paid beta the other week! You can try it out via the link at the bottom of the page.

But the journey doesn’t end here- we’re still missing quite a few key features that we still intend on implementing to the game to push it to final, free release. These include 3 gamemodes aside from standard survival, many more disasters, and gear.

Any feedback you guys have of the game would be great, and if you guys have any bug reports please DM me them

Also any suggestions would be amazing! Just DM me those too, or post them here

Thanks

Edit: Of course I don’t expect you guys to go out and buy the game lmao, I’ll drop a link to a video below if you don’t feel like the cost

Wow! I’m going to try this game pretty soon enough, also there’s just slight issue in your desc - “Content Deleted”, hope you fix this soon!

  • EDIT

Nice!

That literally just happened- I think a mod must have seen this post and checked through the desc or something lmao. I got a warning for a discord server link.

Edit: Thanks whoever that was for pasting the entire description in the mod note rather than just the section with the link in, made it a lot easier adding it back in minus the link

Here’s some sorta opinion-based feedback

  • It takes too long to earn currency from disasters. You make more emeralds from codes and those 2 lobby achievements than you’ll ever make from winning disasters.
The time in between rounds is about 1 min and 45 secs, and each round lasts 1 min and 30 secs. You earn 5 Emeralds for winning a round, and nothing if you lose… So let’s say you win every round. If it takes about 3 mins and 25 seconds per 5 emeralds earned, you can win up to about 18 rounds in 1 hour, but that will only get you 90 emeralds. But if you lose every round like me…
To put this into another perspective, the cheapest item in shop is 150, and cheapest useful item is 550.
Keep in mind that not every user will enter codes - which is a pretty hidden feature since it’s not accessible through the main UI, and not every user will explore the lobby.
It’s a psychological thing; if there was no currency like Natural Disaster Survival, I’d have no problem with getting nothing, but that’s not the case.

  • The screenshake on the earthquake disaster is a bit much… I can’t stand to look at the screen because it makes my head hurt. Would be great if I could disable that effect

  • The earthquake disaster is super easy, basically a free win. Just stand in an open area away from structures, and you’ll survive. You should make some floors fall (kinda like spleef) to make it more exciting

Agree with some of these, but here’s my perspective on others:

-Round intermission is only 45 secs though, not 1:45. You get 10 Emeralds per round you win, and 20 if you’re the lone survivor

-We do have other achievements, such as level up etc where you get substantial emeralds.

-Screen-shake may be a little too much, I agree. It was meant to disorientate player.

-Earthquake is easy, yeah, and I really like that idea of falling floors

For the intermissions I used a timer to count the total time between the end of a disaster (when the time hits 0), and the beginning of it, when the 3, 2, 1 countdown says go.

Ahhh makes sense. So including the pan, end screen etc? Should still only be 1:20 though.

Yeah, I only timed it once so I could be wrong loool

EDIT: And I only get 5 Emeralds per win. You sure you’re not talking about the 2x Emerald gamepass??

Nope, should 100% be 10 Emeralds per win-- maybe it’s a weird bug related to people who were testing when it was only 5 Emeralds per win. Will fix.

EDIT: My bad, I forgot lmao; payout depends on disaster type: if it’s a flood, fire, earthquake or whatever else is an easy one it’s 5. If it’s harder one it’s 10. The future ‘boss’ levels will be even more.

It feels like it… :joy:

It’s actually been just over 1 year and 9 months. 3 months of actual development after we restarted the game in June.
