Introducing Roblox Communities

Wow wow wow, another fantastic update! I don’t have a community currently but I plan on opening one in the (hopefully) near future. I am super excited to see all these new features. Well done Roblox, again, you have really outdone yourselves with this one!

i am only excited for the forums feature, nothing else. The update sucks btw! group was the better name then “communities”

While I been loving about the recent communication updates you guys have been doing, theres one thing I need to ask about these communication updates.

What about Guilded? Are there any features planned to add more Guilded integrations?

Im saying this because I have started to noticed that you guys have been making Guilded worse, with making people who are under 17 being unable to post videos, and while I do get why you guys did that, it doesnt really stop people who are under 17 to post illegal images, infact you guys are just making Roblox users (who are under 17) just use Discord instead.

And not to mention the other Roblox communication features that negatively HURT Guilded, such as allowing 13+ users who are phone verified be able to say swear words to other 13+ users who are phone verified.

You guys have done nothing but add Roblox focused features to Guilded, but dont care enough to add Guilded focused features to Roblox itself?

Why even make these sort of updates to Guilded in the first place when Roblox users themselves DONT even know about Guilded because of the lack of Guilded exclusive features on Roblox.

And dont get me started on the one feature that REQUIRES Guilded, Group Announcements. Why is that the ONLY feature that requires Guilded? And this feature only brings Roblox Creators and not the users who PLAY their games. Like take a look at all of Roblox Communities that USE this feature on Guilded, most of their Guilded servers ONLY have a announcement channel and thats it.

Im not even sure if the forums are gonna have a sort of an Guilded integration, since it does seem like it will be its own thing. And Guilded does have an forum channel for crying out loud.

At this current state of Guilded, either start adding more Guilded integrations to Roblox so more users and creators can have more reasons to use the product, or just shut down Guilded entirely to end its misery.

I am very extremely disappointed with how you guys have been managing Guilded ever since the Roblox Login requirement was announced. Do better.

Actually, there IS an Guilded server for it, however im honestly not sure if its even going to be an Guilded integration in the first place, especially since Roblox has done NOTHING to add any Guilded integrations to Roblox, but rather add Roblox features to Guilded itself, like why? Why add these features to Guilded in the first place when Roblox user WONT EVEN KNOW THAT GUILDED EXISTS.

Any word on an option to retroactively and proactively ban users that are considered persona non grata?

I’d like to apply our global banlist, which is implemented onto our experiences on a community level as well.

Seems like an oversight if we would not able to ban users (and their unknown alt accounts, through Roblox’ automatic detection) whom were previously exiled from our group/community, especially for a community like mine that has over 14 years of history and thus more than its fair share of undesired individuals we’d love to keep out.

I think a staff member has already addressed this and said that it may possibly get added in the future but obviously isn’t possible at this time.

Does this mean that groups and communities will be separated or are they still linked with each other, but just named differently as they serve different functions for the creator hub and the main Roblox website?

I do not think this will change, because if it does, it will break all code that uses this. Unless they managed to change every script that uses the stuff you said, I don’t think it will happen.

They CAN just deprecate these methods or give them the same functionality as new ones, but still good point. People would use groups anyways even if this happened since its shorter so I doubt they’d change it.

Agreed. “Community” sounds like an unneeded corporate term.

This is my cynical side talking, but

I can’t help but laugh at the prospect that “BANNED” is right in the middle, suggesting that’s the main focus of communities now.

“BANNED”, front and center. Thats what communities are all about.

Exactly. I only care about the forums, nothing else.

We show the banned tab on the right side if join requests are disabled, and add an additional tab if join requests are enabled.

The decision to require membership was an engineering decision since we don’t have a UI/UX for proactively banning users, and the community endpoints used on the site are meant for internal use. However, if we add a flow for banning users not in the community, then the API endpoint will be updated as well.

For our developer-facing endpoints, we have OpenCloud for those, but currently we don’t support banning users from OC.

@Doge_Travel

If I understand this correctly:

  1. Groups are now called Communities…
  2. Tho communities will also fall away (early) next year…
  3. Groups were used to create permanent teams/alliances - will that also fall away ?

Please correct me - surely I got this wrong. Thx.

Where exactly did you read that?

Maybe I misunderstood this comment.

There was another comment.

With community walls they mean the Wall at the bottom of (most) communities, the one where people are chatting.

This ‘Wall’ will be replaced by a Forum, each community will have its own forum instead where people can chat. You can see how the forum will look like on this testing group.

Thanks for clearing that up
Forums will be an excellent feature.

Hope they put Guild & Forum Buttons/Links next to each other (being similar).

EDIT: I see the Forum is in a basic “Topic” form, that can be replied to.
Meaning not as robust as a real forum, where you can create your own categories.
I guess those 3 Groups/Channels (Forum, Bugs & General Feedback) is the needed start for now.
Way better than the old wall indeed.

I like the Browser version - as we can see the ‘Channels’ clearly - but on the cell phone, they only show barely 2 Channel names.

WEB :

CELL :

My only concern is… will players be aware to slide it left to see other available channels.
I guess there isn’t much one can do - as it would look silly under each other.

Will there be an option to add our own - one that we can use for Teams or Alliances ?

Other than that - very nice. Look forward to using it.
