Introducing the Open Source Studio MCP Server

Maybe they should focus on the constant demanded features suggested by developers…

would be nice if they had an upvote system like reddit where they could add the most upvoted feature, I have a system like it for my own games updates, but roblox still uses ancient forum technology. im sure all this ai talk is just to make the investors happy.

2 studio commands executable by webhook?

Sounds like the AI bubble is about to burst. Can’t wait

im sure they would be absolutely flabbergasted by stuff like “add customizable topbar” and “remove price floors” getting 10k upvotes in a day

imagine this AI stuff makes them lose all the profit they would’ve gained through pretty recent monetization methods like datastore storage sales to where they have to actually assess that they’re really screwed cause they just randomly made unwanted features happen to where the entire community has lost it

Absolutely!
You can do it right now setting up manually. Here is the documentation.

But quick instructions is to create a file ~/.cursor/mcp.json in your home directory with contents like:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Roblox Studio": {
      "args": [
        "--stdio"
      ],
      "command": "Path-to-downloaded\\rbx-studio-mcp.exe"
    }
  }
}

Then restart Cursor and in Cursor Settings in MCP section you should see the Roblox Studio with tools. Note that Cursor has “Settings” and “Cursor Settings” and they are different.

Also, consider filing a ticket :wink:

So we will then get ai generated garbage now… great… :expressionless: also more ai learning from things we build to train its self…

Amazing update! This is just what I needed for my workflow! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Oh.. That’s much different from what i was thinking when I saw the words ‘Open Source’ and ‘Studio’. (I didn’t know what MCP was before clicking, hehe) Either way, This is something I haven’t heard of being done before. Having an AI know more about your game’s structure is something that seems interesting. Would love to see something like this in action whenever I have to open up a project I haven’t touched in 6 months to a few years that uses an outdated architecture. Lets try it out with something simple (after having to dox myself in order to even sign up):

"Just need to test something. Please utilize the Roblox Studio MCP integration. Analyze the current session I am in and give me a rundown on what the game is. "

Woah. Looking good, although I feel like it could’ve tried other ways to analyze the game.

Maybe I don’t know how to use AI, or maybe I have to shill out over 20 bucks a month for an actually usable experience.. but I’m not sure if I’d be able to use this for anything substantial that’s worth putting over a few days worth of effort into if the length limit is going to be this short. Would appreciate some help. Is this where “prompt engineers” excel at?

Man, I wish we could discuss use-cases for these cool new AI accelerators on the forum without a legion of parrots screaming and crying about how it’s supposedly useless. Sure would be nice if every AI feature announcement would stop turning into a circular debate about whether or not AI tech is valuable. Maybe if we could talk about this stuff like human beings with brains in our heads, Roblox would be able to build AI tech that empowers us in more targeted ways.

Zero effort “slop” games will sink to the bottom, you’ll never see it on the platform because it will not be worth playing. If it is worth playing, then it’s not really “slop” then, is it. Try thinking for yourself, and a little more nuanced than “AI = slop”.

This is an accelerator, not a robot dev that will replace all effort and creativity. Quit making up panic.

The real money is in the data that feeds these AI in the first place, they’re collecting billions of data points to train AI able to create games, Roblox is quite ahead of the competition in that regard.

This is a good update. These AI haters are so annoying at this point.

Obviously it promotes some bad practices, and isn’t perfect in all scenarios. But it does a lot of good for people and more people will get to experiment with their ideas as a result of this. That is a net good.

I hope they do sink but for now they stay on front page. I see 2 of them but I guess you can say it’s more brain rot than slop.

These games are not made with AI, they’re made cheap from reusable tech and in some cases marketed with AI generated icons. You can be mad about lazy AI icons all you want, but the icon doesn’t make the game. These games are low quality for reasons other than AI, don’t conflate them.

I think this is a pretty cool update. While I doubt that I will be using this, I do still think that it’s pretty cool to see how far AI has come in just a few years.

Maybe the games themselves are completely AI free, but the trend they’re following is entirely AI generated, but outside of roblox obviously

I don’t have a side. Though, I believe that AI tools should be helpful and not do the work for you. This allows creators to not do the work and make it from their own image instead relying on AI that has no actual creative image. Regardless, I believe that AI shouldn’t*
be more reliant on entirely automation itself. AI can help perchance in workflow, but not crunch down on developers that can be innovative. But this is just my opinion.

Cheap, easy to produce, brainrot games basically.

What? This is just industry trend for childrens’ brainrot media. There’s nothing AI about it.

@Dysche which are all points that are unrelated entirely to AI use, as I said.

Let’s not conflate “low quality games” with “AI generated games”. The latter currently does not exist in any successful capacity worth talking about. The art inside these games is another story of course, any group mass producing cookie cutter games is likely to use AI generated artwork to make them appear different, but that is not a fault of the tech, they could just as easily use CC0 asset packs. These games are generally bad and will sink if there’s not something in there worth experiencing.

Oh yeah, I know they’re unrelated to AI, they’re just typical brainrot. It’s just a new generation of brainrot, people in my time had MLG shitposts and YTP, now they have Skibidi and Bombardino Crocodilo :man_shrugging:
