Introducing Updates to Our Safety Protections and Parental Controls

Because it’s the only?

This is probably a good thing, even though it might be harder for some to reach their target audience. We need to keep the little ones safe!

Having to go manually through 15+ experiences to update this questionaire when it changes is quite time consuming, it would be awesome if you could select multiple experiences, and have them all in a questionaire like table, so you can check all of the checkboxes or only mark the differences between them, here’s an example I made:

This suggestion is actually pretty handy. I can see this changing an improving the workflow of game developers/administrators, I approve :handshake:

Hey Roblox, it would be a good idea to revamp the following a bit:

  • Allow parents to set per-weekday limits.
  • Use a PIN in the event you allow them to continue playing after time limit is reached.

Just a suggestion.

It now lets you (or me at least) manually set the genre, in case you were asking because it previously didn’t let you.

You’re right, but i did not opened settings a while, so didn’t knew if it was already there for some time or not.

An option that sets 2FA requirement for every major setting change or product purchase both on the App and the Website would be a great solution. PIN allowed you to do this exact thing.

The only downside for this update is the removal of parental pins on accounts of non minors. Even just a four digit pin can provide another obstacle incase your Roblox account gets broken into.

For the screen time graph, I feel like there should also be different graphs for how much time you spend in Studio, on the website, and playing games/experiences. As of right now, I don’t know how long I’m actively/idling in Studio for (yes I know that there’s apps out there that can track that).

Isn’t the whole point of Roblox to socialize? Didn’t David Baszucki say that? Removing chat for users under 13 has to be one of the most ridiculous decisions ever.

Roblox, maybe you should focus on fixing your moderation system instead of making stupid decisions like restricting users under 13 from socializing and chatting.

Not sure if this is true but this may be one of those rare cases of Roblox going into panic mode after getting a lot of attention from safety flaws. In my opinion it should remain available until it can be disabled by default, requiring use of Roblox’s “parental consent” system to gain access to website chat (unless many parents are not willing to add an ID or credit card to manage their child’s account), which is exactly what will be needed for chatting privately inside games while under 13. But to remove the ability to chat outside of games entirely for <13 is a bit excessive. Honestly it would be more understandable if it was stated that it would be unavailable temporarily.

But yeah they claim it’s a safety change, following the Hindenburg incident and this change was even mentioned on CNBC during a brief interview with Builderman

please dont make roblox steal apples way of saying “GET OFF THE IPAD”

You forgot about Nintendo Switch.

My take on this:

Despite this having the potential of making the platform safer, younger users will no longer be able to wake up to a message from their friends like “good morning, wanna play something?”

To address this, will there still be a way for <13 users to send or receive join invites to and from their friends, or does that also pose a safety risk even if they cannot access the game due to its content maturity status?

Also, at this point, we might as well limit Team Create or even group ownership to 13+ only since younger co-creators won’t be able to communicate through Roblox except while playing their creation from the website.

Terrible change. Many accounts are already being compromised because of the removal of the account pin, and their limited items are now being traded and sold on the black market.

Also… this is a social platform. If you feel that under 13 users are at risk of endangerment enough that you’re willing to remove one of the main features of the platform from them, then maybe you need to look at moderation and other areas rather than ruining their user experience even more.

Just how out of touch with the player base are the ones making this decision and going through with it amidst all of the backlash? Sink the stock price even lower, I guess.

This.
Back when I started playing Roblox over a decade ago, I wasn’t allowed to use Skype, and Discord didn’t exist. The only way for me to talk to the friends I made was through the website and in-game chat, it’s one of the core features that brings users together.

Any chance we can get the word “maturity” changed to something more descriptive?

“Maturity: Minimal” is confusing and verbose. It could easily be misunderstood to represent the content as being “immature” or “childish”, instead of “safe for children”.

pin was a good feature
tl;dr pin is still a good feature
