Introducing Videos in the Marketplace!

I removed videoframes from my game. And replaced them with something like it. It allows me to upload custom content in the game. But image quality in Roblox is a problem

May I ask where you got this information?

This is going to be an EXTREMELY useful feature that I have been waiting/anticipating for years now and its finally being added as part of an update to the website. Iā€™m very pleased with this. Canā€™t wait to see what graphical possibilities come out of this!

Will we able to ever play more than 2 videoā€™s simultaneously? Or is that something that will always stay the same.

I would imagine that you would have to add your own subtitles, same for localization. I donā€™t think Roblox even has the resources to add captions to every single video added to the platform, much less localizing it.

You likely would be able to make videos with transparent backgrounds if they background of the video itself was already transparent before uploaded, similar to decals.

I donā€™t think filters would be added to videos, considering that you could quite literally upload any video you wanted, including ones you have edited. You could edit it your own filters in.

Videos will most certainly cost Robux. If just audio costs Robux already Videos, which almost always will have audio, will also cost Robux. Another thing is they need a way to limit things so that people donā€™t upload something like an entire movie or something similar to protect themselves from copyright. It would be great if they were free but thereā€™s just no way for it to happen otherwise.

You could add your own captions and localization by just using TextLabels overlayed above the video using the Zindex, but I donā€™t Roblox doing this themselves.

Thereā€™s any possibility to upload videos in Library?

Not yet, they said that they would add it later, but I wouldnā€™t be surprised if it costs Robux due to the sound and the video itself taking lots of data in the servers.

That would indeed be copyright infringement, since itā€™s the streamerā€™s content. Youā€™d have to get authorization from the streaming service or streamer.

Additionally, I believe it would also be against Robloxā€™s ToS, since the content isnā€™t filtered in any way and could potentially be inappropriate.

You could make this right now if you want:

  1. Make a frame, letā€™s call it screen.
  2. Divide that frame into 1920x1080 frames, letā€™s call them pixels (considering that is the streamā€™s resolution)
  3. Fetch video output from the streaming service through the use of an API
  4. Read the videoā€™s raw data, and get the color each pixel should have
  5. Color each pixelā€™s BackgroundColor
  6. Success! Now repeat this over and over, every time you get new data from the stream

Will this be hard to make? Yes, very complicated.
Useless? Probably, donā€™t see many uses to it. Roblox might take it down as well.
Efficient? No, the latency will be really high when the player receives the video.
A challenge? Yeah, and probably something interesting to put on a portfolio.

This could really be helpful, as Iā€™ve had to upload hundreds of decals beforeā€¦ I wonder when itā€™ll be available to the public soon.

Woah its still a great feature. I made a unique cinema game and welp i got bored with the video feature because of how limited it is. So what did i do? I broke the limits and took on the challenge. From the beginning to the end result: Beginnings to https://streamable.com/ho11tj (sorry for the lag itā€™s a .wmv file)

I made it possible now. I am a type of dev that will do anything in his ability to make things a reality. Heres a short but a tad laggy demonstration:https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Xy3c78PZkVZ1V7H7

Nope, you didnā€™t. You either:

A) Used a local file (Which Iā€™ve done myself before!)
B) Youā€™re showing an image slideshow, which has been done for years.

The truth of the matter is custom videos arenā€™t possible right now unless youā€™re using local files, which will of course not be visible for other players.

Hello,

Iā€™m not happy for not having like trains, planes, etc at all on videos.

So, are you able to make my own video to the Roblox?

When uploading becomes available, my opinion is that it should be free without sound because a video is essentially a string of images and uploading images is free on Roblox.

Agreed! You can make a copy of a video by uploading multiple images, so I agree that it should be free to upload the videos, and then to have audio with it it should be around 300 robux extra. My opinion.
