Hey everyone,
I wanted to start a discussion about Roblox game genres and how they impact visibility and audience targeting.
My game is currently subcategorized under Social, which does make sense to an extent—players hang out, talk, and interact. But it’s not your typical donation game.
Instead, it’s a complex card collection game based around people. Every card is unique and serialized, and we’ve got a strong base of true collectors who are spending thousands of Robux to chase rare cards. The social aspect is definitely there, but the core loop is much more collection-focused and transactional.
Now here’s where I need your feedback:
Analytics Snapshot:
- Payer Conversion: Over 90th percentile
- Average Revenue per Paying User (ARPPU): Over 90th percentile
- Qualified Playthrough Rate: Around 40th percentile
- Day 1 Retention: Around 40th percentile
I have the daily users of a top 10,000 game — but the revenue of a top 1,000 game.
That’s how strong the monetization is, despite not having huge player volume.
This makes me wonder if being in the Social category is hurting me. Are my ads and home recommendations targeting the wrong audience?
Would another genre be more aligned with what the game really offers?
I’m really curious to hear from other devs:
- Have you had a similar issue with genre misalignment?
- Did changing your genre/subgenre improve your targeting or analytics?
- What genre would you pick if you were in my shoes?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
