Is being a famous developer an instant ticket for top contributor?

He released his 2 two games that took months or YEARS free for the public to learn from his resources.

I don’t really think its pedantic, there is so much grey area in ‘inappropriate’ that someone needs to give some definition, or at least some examples of what is and is not appropriate.

For example, Personally I think that mocking someone purely because others are doing it is very inappropriate, but someone younger may not see whats wrong with that.

Im not the first to complain about how grey certain aspects of things on this forum are, and its something the forum could really improve on.

Cindering has been a top Roblox developer for a long while now, so that’s quite the reason that he is a Top Contributor.

No not at all, if this were the case every developer for dreamcraft (team behind adopt me) would be a top contributor as well as a few other developers i linked in my post above.q

Cindering made Roblox Highschool, which was one of the most popular games before Jaibreak, and he has been around for longer than the Dreamcraft team.

Work at a pizza place by Dued1 has been around before Cindering even made his account, and Dued1 is not a top contributor.

There’s also the general activity on the Roblox engine and the DevForum. Or maybe he wishes to remain as a Regular :man_shrugging:

Top Contributors weren’t (at least in the first wave) even approached about this. There was no chance to decline because you weren’t asked.

So it’s not “this person is a top contributor because they’re famous,” it’s more “there are many variables at play and speculation gets us nowhere.”

Also, TCs are Regulars.

Popular developers releasing models or modules are more likely to get more traction as they are famous developers, and that means they will get a lot of likes. The like to post ratio could be the cause for TC

The way it works is that an automated system selects candidates to promote/demote based on a set of criteria.

Then DevRel is responsible for reviewing those people based on moderation history or behavior in the community. The remaining people in the system are promoted/demoted and awarded the badge.

It doesn’t look like DevRel has done this in a while so they are probably looking into whether they still want to keep Top Contributor at all, or change the requirements, etc.

If you don’t meet the forum criteria then you can’t get Top Contributor, because DevRel doesn’t add people that the system didn’t preselect. So “famous developers” are not likely to get Top Contributor unless they are actually a top contributor in the developer community here.
