I have a space-themed tycoon game with currently 3 player slots per server, and i don’t know is singleplayer is better than multiplayer?
Would you like to see other player’s builds on planets? Would you want to engage in combat with other players for a money-generating drill? Or maybe you prefer to play alone and build a more massive base with no rivalry? Which choice fits better to my game?
You can also make two versions of your game: one with singleplayer and one with multiplayers. You can also do quests for money or for other special items. That way people can choose what they want to do and there is also a little challenge in the game.
I think rivalry and engaging in combat is always a good idea to add fun to a tycoon. People who don’t want to fight get an extra reason to save up for walls as well. I think the majority of players want to interact with other players and possibly friends rather than play alone. A single-player tycoon has proven successful many times so that is a working formula, though some 2-player tycoons also work well, so I think both options have advantages and disadvantages.
A game that handles multiplayer amazingly while still allowing single play is clone tycoon 2, I’d personally use that as a template.
