Is it against TOS to sell access to a game using USD?

Let’s say I made a community closed game:

Is it against Roblox TOS to sell access to the game using USD? Of course I can’t sell access to it using Robux cause that’s against TOS.

Thank you.

You can sell access to a game using robux??? Where did that come from?

I mean I’ve seen multiple people do it before. Like deepwoken, and other games who make a gamepass that lets you access the game.

i don’t think deepwoken ever made a gamepass that lets you access the game, i’m asking if it’s allowed to sell access using usd

  1. There is a built in feature to sell your games for robux
Example of a paid access game: Deepwoken - Roblox
Selling games for robux is allowed

  2. Yes it is against TOS to charge USD for your game as you are evading roblox tax. You will be terminated if caught.

You can’t sell access using USD or any other currency except Robux. Look at welcome to Bloxburg they charge 25 Robux to play. They may allow that in the future to charge USD when they add the paid subscriptions.

Can you show me where in the Roblox TOS it says that? Also in my opinion this seems flawed cause you know builders, scripters sometimes get paid in USD? and this is in popular discord servers like RoDevs and HiddenDevs sooo?

I said deepwoken AND other games that use the gamepass system. I’ve seen games use gamepasses to grant access, as well as whitelists.

:skull: dude, that’s different.
Commissions are offsite, and it’s you paying for code, and the coder/builder’s hard work. Not paying for hosting the game/access on Roblox’s site. Games and code are very different.

Roblox doesn’t want you to evade their Robux tax, obviously. If everybody made USD access games, Roblox would probably go bankrupt.

Hiring developers is so much different than selling products.

Developing “experiences” on Roblox can be a real and professional job, some people have their own irl company/studio for it, and they have to do contractual agreements for each developers to adhere to their local employment law, so of course Roblox allow that.

Also most of the time, the money you use to pay developers come from devex, so all the Roblox fees and taxes was included, once you got the money you can do whatever you want with.

Selling a product for USD is same as cross trading items (selling Roblox items for USD) which is not allowed obviously.

Truncated excerpt from “Creator Terms” in Community Standards:

Roblox maintains the Robux system for everyone’s benefit and enjoyment. To keep it fair for everyone, some activity in the Roblox Economy is prohibited, including:

  • Engaging in off-platform, secondary market transactions for account access or virtual content from experiences or Marketplace. This does not apply to account holders selling or transferring the rights to the account’s creations as part of a verifiable agreement.

Real money transactions for account access to experiences is prohibited. Like @TimeFrenzied said, it circumvents the robux tax.

son, this is literally a special pleading fallacy; “commissions are offsite” dawg LOOL WHAT?
if i hire someone to script me something in roblox using USD then i’m trading something using USD that’s related to ROBLOX

refer to what i said earlier, cause your response is really un-detailed and sounds like a fallacy to me

also please cite where it allows USD in the roblox terms of service

:skull: dude, no.

just make a gamepass that lets people have access to the game and leave it at that.

it’s the exact same thing as buying limiteds for usd, you literally cannot

so i ask you a question, you refuse to expand and answer the question as prior to your claim and instead provide me with an alternative without answering anything?

Bloxburg was sold to a company for $100m, so it’d be weird if they let that happen but not for others

thats selling an actual game vs selling access.

Can you explain to me the differences between those, though I think I already have an idea what you mean.

Access is charging someone to play the game.
Selling the actual game is giving up literal ownership
