Is it bad to have only one Roblox "skill"?

I am mainly a Roblox developer, but I’ve been trying to decide if I should really try to learn other skills that are highly favorable among the Developer community such as: Modeling, or scripting.

In the long run, is it fine to only be a developer? or to try to stop and learn other things as well?

All the stuff I cannot do, I’ve been commissioning others to help me out with it.

I don’t think it’s “bad” to only focus on one thing because you become better at it. However, I try to never stop learning on Roblox because it makes me a better developer and it reduces the amount that I have to rely on other people. I started building in 2013 and wanted to focus on it, but now I know how to build in Studio, model in Blender, animate, script (a bit), design clothing, and I’m trying to now teach myself GFX and video-making in Roblox, as well as trying to keep improving everything else that I already “know.”

So to answer your question, I think it is a good thing to know more than one skill, but it isn’t “bad” to focus on one.

I think that once you reach a certain level of one skill you should try and learn other things as well, but do not and I mean do not try to work alone. It is ok to ask for help in something you’re not a specialist of. In the long run what matter is you being really good and experienced with just one skill and not everything. Take bloxburg as an example, Coeptus isn’t a builder so he hired Froggyhop instead and that is completely fine! Coeptus is really good with scripting and Froggyhop is really good with building. They make a good team, the same can go to everyone, don’t feel like you have to be good at more than one thing. Learning is good but don’t force yourself to get into something you might not like.

I don’t actually think that it is “bad”, but i mostly do only one thing, which is scripting, i’am not that good of a builder, so yeah.

Also, try taking a look at this:

I think that as long as what you do makes you happy, and it makes the world better, you’re doing fine. For me, I try to be the Jack of all trades and try to keep my skill up in different areas.

Is it bad? No, not really. People specialize in one area of medicine for a reason, so they can become as proficient in that as possible, instead of just being average in 2 areas. If you plan on doing commissions, it’s not a bad idea to specialize so you can generally get higher payment correlating with your higher skill.

For me, over time I get bored of things. Roblox has given me the platform and motivation to learn building, coding, graphics design, 3d modelling, and more. If you feel like you’d like to diversify your skills, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I’d encourage it, because you might realize you like building over scripting for example. It also helps in big projects, as you don’t have to wait for someone to code something if you need a quick prototype, you can just do it yourself.

I’d suggest at the start you diversify, figure out one or two things you really enjoy, and mostly specialize in those. But never ignore opportunities to learn more skills!

Edit: this seems like a topic more suitable for #discussion

Certainly not bad but I would highly recommend learning another.

For example, if your goal is to make a successful game that can earn you some money then it can be very worthwhile once you are decent enough at say building, to start learning to script too. Sure if you dedicate 100% of your time to building you’ll be better at building but being both decent at building and scripting I think is far more worthwhile.

Yeah sorry about that, I couldn’t really find a “general category” to put this in, but I thought it might be allowed since it’s discussing building, etc.

Short Answer: “No”

Of course its not bad to learn one Roblox skill. It actually makes you better at something and can enhance your skill within the course over the years. To be honest
this is a straight-forward question, so it should be very obvious that it’s never bad to learn a skill. It’s always nice to have many skills that you can develop so that you have a better understanding and that it is easier for you to do things.

For example. to create and develop a game, you will need to learn many things in order to achieve it - whether its UI’s or scripting or modeling for example. Learning these types of skills allows you more ease and it gives you more options instead of hiring others for doing things for you.

If you’re a developer who works on games with an owner and lead developer doing most of the work, than that’s ok.But if you’re a lead developer or Owner, than you need to learn more skills.
If you are, I suggest learning GUI’s, they’re simple.
