Is it better to make a copy-paste game or unique game? Answer in several different categories (eg profit) and then come to an overall conclusion
It’s what ever you want to make lol.
First of all, if your making games for the cash dont do it here on Roblox. The time put in may have a little to no return. I would make something that you want to make. Sure it might be a copy-paste game but have fun with it, put your own spin to it. Most games on Roblox that blow up arn’t super unique, they all just have there own themes and twists to them that make them fun and popular. You’ll improve your scripting and game design and sooner or later you’ll come up with a super unique game, it’s just a matter of time.
So ye start with a simple concept that may just be from the top played games, but have fun with it. Don’t make it for the money because with Roblox fees it hard to actually make a good chunk of change. Hope this helps. Also I kind of want to hear your thoughts.
I’d say make whatever you want to make.
Copy and paste games
- Faster to develop since you can already get a general idea of what you want to make
- Easier to market if basing it off of a proven formula (battle royale, fps, etc etc)
- They can generate quick revenue, but the revenue won’t be long term
Original Games - Higher financial risk. Originality doesn’t guarantee success. High risk high reward
- Potential for big payoff!! original games obviously can become a hit. (Deepwoken, Parkour Reborn, The Strongest Battlegrounds)
- Long term brand value if the game stands out

An example of a copy and paste game would be something like a simulator game, or a tycoon game.
While an original game would be something like Tower of Hell, or JTOH (Jukes towers of hell), or plates of fate.
It really depends on your goals as a game developer. Are you looking for a quick return on investment with minimal effort, or do you want to create something original that has long-term potential? It isn’t set in stone however, you can also do a mix of both. There’s no rule that says a copy and paste game can’t have long term success or that unique game can’t fail. Some developers can strike a balance between the two; for example TSB (The Strongest Battlegrounds) is based off of an anime, but made a unique but simple combat system that is now widely used across other games while the combat mechanics are from the anime itself. You don’t need to commit to one extreme. Copying an entire game or making something completely unheard of. Instead you can take inspiration from successful mechanics while adding something new to stand out. In my opinion, just mess around with some ideas and build off of it and you will find something.
If you’re asking for my opinion though; I’d invest in a long term game. making something original rather than copying a game is my advice.
Overall; there is no “Correct” way to make a game. Do what you think is best.
Well it’s a bit of both, I’ve been scripting for a year so I am pretty experienced I think and yeah I would be proud of my copy and paste game even if it wasn’t successful. But I also do want some money yeah.
How much would you define the short-term profit as?
Also, why are unique games that are unheard of seen as riskier? Why would anyone play a watered-down version of a better game? Compared to a completely original game?
Also wouldn’t growing a unique game be easier because it won’t be competing with any other games in the saem cncept?
I’m no successful game developer, however I’d potently suggest to simply create what suits your passion. As far as I’m concerned, if you pursue your passion then you’ll be inclined to maximize quality of said passionate production. If you’re really just seeking a quick payout then a copy and paste game isn’t a poor course of action. The profit your game will acquire can be more precisely calculated through demographics and current trends, and a copy and paste game will be easier to apply to those categories, and hence a more promising and probable success of the game. However, for the sake of your enjoyment, motivation, and passion towards game design, I’d say a game you yourself actually take a strong interest to, whether it’s unique or not is a preferable course of action.
Thank you, but how much do you reckon a “quick payout” from copy and paste games would be?
god dammit so should i cancel my simulator if im only in it for fame/money?
thats what i was thinking cuz most games on roblox are only there for fame and money
hahaha no. I mean if your totally motivated by just money, you’ll get money. It just takes time. I just put my first game out OFFICE SIM. Took me over a year. Now I’m making 1500 Robux per day! So the thing about Robux and coding it dosent give a good hour/profit ratio. I think I dumped around 1000 hours in making my game so ye. Def took time (Also had to figure out of to code in the first place). Thats why I usher you not to work on your game to get money, just get a real job lol. Though I wouldnt say it was a copy and paste game. So if you JUST want to make money ye make a copy and paste and just jump on bandwagons.
I couldn’t really give you a proper estimate, however I can only presume a copy and paste game is more probable to reach large audiences due to trends and various other factors, and henceforth acquire more success than a less generic production.
Would it best to make a game that is based on something that’s already out but with its own spin then? To appeal to both trends and make it a bit unique aswell?
That’s definitely something that harbors the potential to work out in more ways than one, so yea.
