Is it feasible to animate rigs with floating limbs?

I have a character that doesn’t have any joints connecting and I’m wondering if it would be possible to rig it like this for animating or if that would require a more complicated process.

As a side question, is it possible to manually position accessory parts to attach onto moving limbs? The reason I ask is that from what I’ve experienced, basic welds just auto shift the parts into the center of the parent part.

You’ve kind of answered your own question through an irony.

“Can you animate something which has no joints” - yes you can, it doesn’t have any joints to move therefore you can’t animate anything on it thus you animated it by not animating it.

Joke aside:

I would look into this, you can create movement based on your own rig - this means you don’t really need a connecting joint, more so just a motor which can be manipulated.

If you don’t want to use a plugin then Motor6D has the following:

Where Part0 is the base, Part1 is where you want the connection to. And parent is where the connection is held (where Part1 is).
