Is it ok if i make a spinoff for a game I don't own?

Hello devs,

I’m presuming a majority of you have heard if entry point by chishsato if not here’s the link it’s a great game:
https://www.roblox.com/games/740581508/Entry-Point

To put it simply my freind @SuperSuperPickle Is a big fan of ep and we want to make a spin off to show our love for the series

My only concern is that it could cause problems so I want to hear that you think and would really appreciate it if @Cishshato would contact me via dms since it is her franchise.

If you have had an experience with pls help I’ll appreciate it.

Also if this goes well you’ll be able to check the games development here on my group:

Anyways happy development!

As long as you are not breaking any rules such as stealing assets from the original game, I don’t see a big problem with making a game based on the same idea/objective as the original game. It’s also unlikely that a spinoff of a popular game will be played by many people and they will instead opt for the real game. Most developers don’t have a problem with people creating games with the same base ideas/objectives as theirs, though if your game is too similar to a well known game it’s likely the players who will not enjoy it.

I think so.

Niklis is working on Murder Mystery 2, yet there’s a Murder Mystery 4 made by a completely different development group.

So I think it’s allowed.

Though, if there’s any copyrighted characters in the main game then you won’t be able to use them.

Good point but ill make sure to credit anything that the developers do own

The characters bit is the reason I’m a bit scared since the spinoff is gonna be about one the characters past by hopefully i can try to get in contact with cish to negotiate

I think its completely fine, however if your completely copying/remaking it, said game will fail. You need to add an original twist to it.

Yes, it is ok. I guess that’s the same as Jailbreak/Prison Life?

Not necessarily, they use the same concepts but going back to my point they added purchasing cars and robbing places. Prison life didn’t have that.

You are using the idea that because Entry Point exists, they therefore own the genre of a shooter where you are trying to complete objectives. You can make spinoffs, as nobody owns any genres.
