Some of the most memorable experiences I’ve had while gaming have involved extremely satisfying melee combat systems. @Khanovich’s talk at RDC two years ago was extremely helpful, yet, in spite of that, I haven’t seen any games that have really impressed me. Legendary (which was talked about in the aforementioned talk) is great, though it seems to suffer from latency issues. The upcoming Husk (https://twitter.com/HuskRbx/status/1261960262472654848?s=20) looks promising, though I fear that it, too, may suffer from the same problems. So, what is it that’s holding melee systems back in Roblox? The conflicting needs for satisfying feedback and high ping? I’m working on a system right now and would appreciate your responses.

Instant gratification in the act of pressing the buttons is not so hard. I myself am mostly content if the visual effects, audio, and animations are instantaneous the moment the button goes down. But when a player has a bad connection, someone will always pay the price.

Yes it is possible though I imagine it’d be quite hard to make.
Roblox is super restricting and I feel even if you made this system your game would lag a lot.
Why don’t developers make games with enjoyable and intricate combat systems?
- Lag - it’d be too much with scripts, systems and buildings.
- Restrictions - studio probably won’t hold up well
- Money - a game like this would cost a lot of money and looking at the other factors, seems really discouraging to make. not only that, but young players would rather play other games. this pushes developers to work towards other games like meepcity, adopt me etc…
Games that are unexplored and have worrying factors are a lot.
I would really like to see a game with an effective and immersive combat system. Maybe you are the one to do it right.
