Is it possible to lengthen any free model?

Hello fellow builders!

I’ve been getting a bit frustrated about this for about a week now, and I cannot find a solution to what I perceive as a building catastrophe.

To put it simply, I’ve been using free model benches for a build I’m making, but I need to make the benches longer than they are, in order for them to fit properly in the build. As I’m sure you know, using the scale tool does make the model longer, but it makes the model bigger too.

I was wondering, is there any way to make a free model longer, but not bigger too? I’ve used some free models where that can be accomplished, but for most it doesn’t work.

Please let me know if there is a solution to this!

Have you tried this plugin? Model Resize Plugin

Yeah, I actually installed it not too long ago. I tried using it but it seemed to do the same thing as the default scaling does. Did I do it wrong?

If its a simple model, try just ungrouping it and moving the legs like 3 (or however many) studs away. Then resize the seat and back 3 studs in that direction.

Yes and this word is the key.
Remember to regroup after

Unfortunately it won’t let me ungroup the model.

Can you show the hierarchy of the model please.

The “model” you may be talking about might be a mesh.

You can read more about meshes here: MeshPart

If the “model” is indeed a mesh part, you may have to use a third party software (eg. Blender) to edit the mesh.

Good luck.

It could also be a union. In that case you will need to separate the union, move the stuff, and re-union. Just search up union in the docs.

since you can’t ungroup it further, it’s either a meshpart (which means you wouldn’t be able to change it without distortion), or a bunch of unions since that will cause parts to scale in both axis even if you’re trying to scale in only one
