Is it Possible to make an Open World MMORPG with 100+ Players with Current Tech?

I have seen 100+ player experinces possible but its for Small stuff

What about making a game like PC MMORPGs where 1 server can have Tons of players without any lag.

Why? Because I want to see if it is possible to make NATION Fights in games like :

  • Sun Nation vs Moon Nation

Like a Border Fight that you steal from Other side, PvP + PvE [ Guard NPCs ] Protecting items you need to steal, than take it to your own Nation’s side

or Big Guild ARENA Fights like :

  • 100 vs 100
  • Every Player has : 1 Passive + 3 Active + 1 Ultimate + 1 Pet Skill
  • Boss NPCs in Both sides to Protect Bases, etc.

you would need to be really careful with optimisations though

i wonder how big it can be made by making players load by render distance from client side

like “hide ally, only show enemy”

i wonder if servers can handle over 1k+ players ( i think is impossible)

but also i feel like there is a big disadvantage in this
because while that Global Event is happening, if they are lucky, they may land on a server with less players or, 150 vs 50 where 1 nation is over crowded

i am sure overcrowd can be stopped by making server check but feels too unbalanced :C

i feel the only way to make it great would be making all players being able to somehow play on same server like those PC Games, instead of 10 servers, 1 europe, 1 asia, etc.

maximum amount of players you can get in a server is 700…

although it will crash at 300-400, so unless you somehow optimise characters anything above that is nearly impossible
also you can enable streaming if you have a large map
