I was watching videos about Valorant, and I noticed that the game’s Time-to-Kill was very low. I’m a bit confused because, on Hero Shooters, it usually takes a bit of time to kill enemies, to make the abilities viable to use on the game. If I wanted to make a game in this style, would it be better to keep the Time-to-Kill high or keep it low?
It keeps it more realistic and competitive for players to die quickly with a gun, instead of surviving for a while.
If you’d prefer a realistic approach, a game of stealth and tactics, lower the “Time-to-Kill.” If you’d like a game that’s abilities based, similar to Overwatch, feel free to increase the time it takes to kill a player.
Normaly weapons with a really low time to kill have major drawbacks such as low range or high recoil.
To add on to what @Zero0Sanity said, you could also take a look at the time-to-kill in Destiny 2. Destiny 2 is heavily abilities-based, but also has a fairly quick TTK for gunfights.
So I should make abilities more effective than the TTK higher?
I think you should balance them based on how you want combat to play out/feel.
