Is making a tycoon worth it?

I’m thinking of making a tycoon, because it’s simple to make. The problem is, I’m not sure if it’s worth my time. Tycoons have been made a billion times, so I don’t know if people will play it. My tycoon will be called Noob Tycoon, where you produce noob heads. it’s gonna be a little different than most tycoons, like you save your money when you leave (But not your tycoon.) and you can buy weapons, gear, and pets that boost your speed and jump power. Obviously the weapons you get from the tycoon will be bad, so you will want to save money to buy one from the store. Another thing I found annoying about most tycoons was that you don’t get anything from defeating other players, so in my game I think your main source of money will be from killing other players. My question is, is it worth my time making a tycoon, or will no one play it?

Tycoons are all about progress and retaining user-interest in a relatively static environment. To offset the static nature of the tycoon, which is a good model for games, you should make it more dynamic with particles, premium purchasables, and social features that give users a reason to stay.

Whether it’s worth it or not is purely up to you. But from looking at your post, I’m thinking that your definition of worth it(at least in this scenario), is that lots of people play it. The one tip I have for you, is to make sure your game is unique and it has features that are addictive and it reaches out to multiple fan bases. Make sure the title is attractive, as well as, the thumbnail and description but the best way(in my opinion) to get players to play your game for longer then 2 minutes is to really have a unique concept and cool things that you can strive to get.

Yes, there are loads of tycoons but you can always make one that stands out (has something unique that draws people to it). Maybe you could rethink the process of it or alter how it works to make it a bit different. Personally, I think what’s most important is if you feel passionate for it or not. If you do, go for it but if not maybe think of something else that makes you excited and more passionate.

I mentioned a bunch of concepts that I think aren’t in most tycoons, like getting a lot of cash from defeating other players.

Also, what I want to do is make the tycoon huge, like 10 floors.

Yes, I like those concepts. Just remember, that if your game is unique then players will find it more intriguing. As a roblox player, I would say that most tycoons lack in their moveset. All they have is swords and the occasional differently modeled sword or a basic move but I feel like tycoon’s need a bit more engangement through combat as well. That might just be me though.

Ok! I’m going to go along with the tycoon, and try to make it as unique and detailed as I can.

Don’t sweat it so much… make sure to enjoy as you go.

I think this kind of tycoon has already made 6845^14515 times.
As you said you want to make a Noob Tycoon, it might be already made 84^10 times.
As a tycoon fan, I prefer building thing instead of just looking at money flowing out.
Remember, no matter what game you are working on. It has to be more challenging.(This is an very Important material of a game.)
When your player can’t beat the same thing for a long time, they might spend robux on your game.(It means that more people will be willing to spend their robux.)
Try to avoid your players to get tired of your game.(Just go and find why some games can be so popular and why people can’t be tired of it.) For example: Theme park tycoon 2 ,Lumber Tycoon,Miner’s Heaven,Restaurant Tycoon 1&2,Retail Tycoon,Water Park World.
These tycoon games stayed on front page for a very long time, because they have a system to show player’s creativity.

I would say at all depends on how you do it.

Maybe ask yourself some of these questions:

What makes your game unique from the rest of the genre?

What would makes players want to play your game specifically rather than the many other tycoons?

How would you do the things needed when answering the questions above?

Honestly, I would say it is worth it. I am not thinking of the ones with droppers to buy upgrades, more droppers etc, make one that is different.

Think about it, Lumber Tycoon, Restaurant Tycoon, Clone tycoon, etc, they all throw something down into the mix. If you are making a tycoon, I would suggest making one different than anything else that exists, to draw people in. I think they can be really popular, if enough effort is put into it.

I think that if it’s unique enough it could do well. Having unique mechanics such as getting money from killing others could help draw players to the game.

If it is like any other boring tycoon it wouldn’t be worth it. But, when you make yours unique, it WILL be worth it. So, if you make it unique, it is worth it.

Tycoons can be worth it for sure, but it really depends. Tycoons have been popular on Roblox for a long time, due to this, lots of them have become boring to lots of people. I’d recommend thinking of a different, more unique game idea than a tycoon. Hundreds of tycoons have been made, and unless done right, yours may not stand out from the rest. If you are considering making a tycoon, then it needs to have a very unique, creative and fun spin on it. I’d recommend thinking of a different name then something simple like “Noob Tycoon”, as no one will think your game is different from the hundreds of other tycoons they have seen. Anyways, good luck!

I think there are 3 reasons tycoons don’t succeed:

  1. The game is boring and adds nothing interesting to the typical tycoon experience. You’ll only really attract new players with typical tycoons because of this.
  2. People join the game once, play it, and leave. This is what happens to tycoons that don’t save.
  3. The game isn’t optimised for mobile and tablet. Chances are pretty big this’ll be your primary player source for a tycoon.

As long as your tycoon is unique, long, and most importantly not repetitive, you’ll do pretty well.

I would recommend making it unique. You should make a tycoon that is not a factory and doesn’t feel like an endless treadmill and when you finish it wasn’t worth it. My advice is make it so instead of droppers it could be office works or something else other than the basic dropper style. If it’s a noob tycoon it could be some form of research facility and instead of droppers you have researchers and other things.
