I made a demo for my new horror game and i am wondering if its actually scary. In the full release its going to have better atmosphere.
I loved it! It had really good tone-setting out the gate and I liked the map! Can’t wait to see more Really great job!!
Also, do you think you’ll ever add multiplayer options or just keep it singleplayer? I imagine it’d be harder to do multiplayer though, so I’d completely understand keeping it as one.
i have other games im working on that are made for multiplayer but this one will be a singleplayer game.
There are some little details that you have that were very interesting:
- The door knobs actually turn, interactive
- PBR textures on the walls and some objects, gives more detail to the environment
- Lights flickering, which adds a little ambience
Your atmosphere seems to be the most developed, maybe because you know what a good horror ambience is. That’s always important to understand in horror games.
Some things that I think you can improve:
- It took some time to figure out what to do, I think a GUI that shows where to go or what to do would be helpful.
- Unless this is intentional, it’s unclear to what the game is about. In the beginning, you rise out of bed in a prison-like room. Other than that, what is the purpose and what are we doing there? Just some things to think about.
- There were some objects or rooms that could’ve been much more interactive. The computer was one of the examples, where instead of clicking it and having it open the doors, you could add a user interface that needs a code to unlock the doors. There were also a lot of rooms that were empty, which are clearly filler rooms. I think it would be optimal to just bar off those rooms or remove them.
Overall, I think the game is pretty scary and it has a lot of potential to become a great horror game. I hope you continue to develop it more and add creative details that nobody else has done. The horror genre is currently saturated with similar games, so it’d be refreshing to play something that’s not quite similar.
the story was not developed because it was a demo but in the actual story which will be in the full game with voice acting, you and your friend want to investigate a abandoned warehouse where you are there and your friend is on the phone, then you get attacked and kidnapped and put in this place with the monster. Still being developed obviously but its better than nothing. The computer i am going to add an interface where you type a passcode and can view pictures which i think was a really cool idea. The empty rooms were because i was on a time crunch and didn’t have a lot of assets and needed to fill rooms. Thank you so much for this feedback, I will take everything into consideration.
