I wasn’t able to find anything in the Roblox Terms of Use, but I’ve seen a lot of games selling passes that give promotions in groups. I have been told this is against the ROBLOX rules, but I wasn’t able to find any information on it anywhere. Verification on whether this is allowed or not would be greatly appreciated.

In a thread inaccessible to New Members it is mentioned that an in-game purchase should have an in-game effect accompany it. If an in-game purchase has its effect invalidated by leaving the group it could be problematic.
So if the pass promoted them and even if they left, it still gave the perks in-game, that would be fine?
It should be more or less a side effect rather than the main product being purchased.

This is why usually they will call the gamepasses a donation rather than a full rank itself.

That’s technically a bypass of the rules and not really allowed. If it is allowed (which I highly doubt) it’s scummy to do that. It’s deceiving by hiding intentions behind a “donation” game pass. Selling ranks as a main point of monetisation is a deceptive practice in itself (though it somehow works).
It’s very clearly a rank purchase in which you receive a rank in a group. If you don’t or the rank is removed, the purchase isn’t honoured and developers make off with your money. Purchases that aren’t honoured are scams.

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe it is allowed, or at least does not forbid, the use of selling ranks for groups. The term donation is usually put in so the players are donating to the game, and they can receive a rank in that group for donating. Most of the time they will say that you may be demoted and have to follow a certain set of guidelines (which technically is allowed) or that you would be fired/demoted. Most groups started changing it to a rank donation rather than a buy a rank because of Nova Hotels being deleted many times. I do not believe selling ranks is against the ToS because there are thousands of groups, some where are very popular, which sell ranks.

Selling for non-guaranteed benefits is a very gray area with the Terms of Service because there is no way to guarantee that you get what you purchase. Rank donation game passes are not seen as such by moderation, they are seen as purchases intended to give you items.
Many developers doing it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s allowed.

It is allowed cause in Cafe, Hotels and other games like that they sell game pass that you can buy and you can have the rank in game.

Please try and avoid bumping topics and be sure to read other responses before replying! There are also several topics about this which have answers to them already.
Other games selling ranks does not mean you are allowed to. “Other games do it so I can as well” is a weak justification against rules as every case will be reviewed differently and independently of another. Selling ranks is not allowed and can result in account termination. Use game passes in their official capacity which is to grant benefits to the game. There are also other responses offered above which make comments on the practice.

Without direct effect from purchasing the Game-pass it leaves the functionality of it in your hands, and therefore cannot be guaranteed. I believe i have read multiple places that creating a Game-pass for it directly is a bad idea and if you don’t follow through can come with serious repercussions on your account and group. So a Game-pass directly for a role isn’t very plausible in general and is very risky in rule terms.
I don’t think it’s breaking any rules, but people despise the idea of doing this kind of stuff. If you are selling an admin rank, people could be falsely banned, thus ruining the game experience for them.

It’s like a scam, it’s like “if you mis behave you will loose your perks”. The game pass should be permanent as you bought it and it should stay that way, your perks should never go away. The only point is for money, What is the other point in doing it? Either, your not going to get the rank and you just got scammed, or you get the rank and none of the other perks listed.
