Is There a Way to Stop a DDoS Attack?

The title explains it all. I had a guy show me on screen share EXACTLY what he does to easily DDoS a Roblox server and lag it like crazy. Please reply if there are any ways to stop this.

Thank you in advance!

Ps: I have searched the forum but the topics that have to do with this, it doesn’t get solved.

The best bet to stop it in its tracks would either prevent against what he is using, such as limits on the amount of times a remote event can be fired, but I’m not too sure about what he is doing here, but you would know better.

Or you could also shut down the server before he can do any more harm, and bring them back up when you have prevented against his ways.

He literally uses an online ip stresser and attacks the my game server ip and the port.

Then that’s not really considered a Distributed DoS attack. It’s more of a DoS attack, I’d assume. To execute a Distributed DoS attack, (DDoS) you’d need to have control of an array of computers or servers.

Well then is there a way to stop a DoS attack?

If anyone knows I would appreciate a method or at least something to stop these people.

I don’t want to shut down the server because, honestly, that would just be doing what he wants. DDoSing the servers is literally just him trying to make the server timeout, or more simply, shut down.

From what I’ve seen they usually want some form of payment, but yes, they also want to make your game unplayable. I’m not too advanced in the knowledge of DoS and DDoS attacks, so that was the best of my knowledge is to just shut down the server. I usually see them happening because there’s some flaw in the code for remote events, so I’m not sure how you would stop them if they aren’t using something in your game, but instead attacking the port. Hopefully you find your answer and resolve this issue.

Thanks. They didn’t ask for payment yet, but the probably will when they see that I can’t stop them besides cutting off the game server. The problem with shutting them down is that I would lose players interest in the game because they will find something else.

You can’t DDoS from roblox alone.

Perm ban this person and their alts on sight, ignore it or pay them off.
I would suggest the first one and if this fails, the second one. Personally I wouldn’t pay because the person is probably going to ask for more and you’re at their mercy.
You can hire someone to make an anti exploit system?

There’s not really much you can do… unless this person has a harsh personal grudge against you, they will give up eventually. Why not make VIP servers free?

I appreciate your solution but if I made private servers free, it would still ruin the point of the game because players should be able to get on and have a pvp fight in an arena. It would be a hassle to have this person get to know the opponent, join his/her game, and then play. It also takes away from the robux I will be making from the game.

If they’re doing it externally (i.e. they never join your game or have bots join your game), then there is nothing you can do. Do not give in to these people. People never seem to take this advice for whatever reason, but just block them and completely ignore them. Do not talk to them, do not try to reason with them, do not speak a word to them. Give it enough time and they’ll get bored and find someone else.

I agree with what @Luxorz said. Make a permanent ban system within your game and ban him and his alt accounts. I would not however pay him in any sort of way. You could also do what @vastqud said and block him. He’ll go away eventually.

Alright. Thank you everybody for the solutions. I will try to ignore the people who are doing this and not pay them. And of course I will not associate with them.
