Is there any way to change surface directions?

Problem

Hey, so I have noticed a mistake I did on a very delicate union model that I have made, and I have to weld it, basically I messed up the orientation and i did not notice, I noticed that the surface directions are wrong, Front is pointing to the left, Back to the right, etc.

Question

I wanted to know if there is any way that I can change the surface sides (fixing orientation) without remaking the whole model? It is very hard to accomplish…

Thank ya for any help :stuck_out_tongue:

From what I understand of your issue I don’t think it’s possible without introducing new parts to the model and rebuilding it on a better rotation. Consider using the weld constraint rather than the weld surface tool.

I mean’t the Weld Instance type, not surface tool :v

I apologize for misunderstanding, not sure what other advice there is to give. Thanks for clarifying, sorry I couldn’t be much help

no prob, i think i will try rebuilding this.

I’m guessing you want it faced the other way? Subtract the negatives that you messed up on, place them on the right side. Is that what you wanted? Or am I completely misunderstanding this?

I believe for unions, the first part you select determines how the bounding box is placed. Which may be the orientation as well. So just make sure you have a perfectly oriented part with no rotations and the right directions as your first selection before you do a union.

What kind of property are you talking about? what happened is that when i was making unions, surface directions got completely messed up, and the orientations hided that from me til now, its like the base model orientation is 0,0,0 , and the second model’s orientation wich was supposed to be als0 0,0,0 is 0,90,90, it got messed up when i was making theunions

I have tried your method but it has not worked.

I had attempted to make an invisible block with no rotations and select it first when making the union. It gave me the same outcome except now here was a random block added. It still said the unions orientation is 0,-90,0.

Could you show me a working example in case I have done something wrong?

For me it seems to work perfectly, the last selected part seems to be the one used for surface direction reference.
Lets hope that one days we will be able to change it exactly to our liking.
