Is there anyway to make rich text work with greater than/less than signs (< >)

i tried doing \<font color="rgb(248, 216, 28)">\\<\</font>
but that didnt work

i need this to work since im making a syntax highlighter and having the greater than and less than signs appear different colors will help a lot since there arent a lot of color changes in the first place

Use < and >. First is less than and second is greater than.
