Is this a decent game idea (Horror/puzzle game)

Hey everyone. I’ve been slowly working on a multitude of project on and off. Recently, I’ve been dedicating more time to a horror game with puzzle aspects. I won’t go too into the game mechanics and all since this is the introduction. The game would be named Twitching (you can guess why it’s called that after reading the whole post).

Backstory

You are a teenager in a group of friends. All of the members are shady, pressuring other into doing scary things such as stealing from a cemetery. One day, you are a target of their ominous doings. An insane man, Al, recently went missing. He wasn’t found in his house when a 7 year old girl meandered in there. The group tells you to go into the house and rob the house because Al was supposedly really rich. After entering the house, you see things others would not. Objects twitch and you being disoriented, unable to find your way out. Things not humanly possibly appear from nothingness. Only one thing was similar between everything there: everything twitched. Your job is to complete the task at hand, potentially discover the cause of Al’s sudden disappearance, and find your way home.

Mechanics

Like one of my previous (horrible) horror games, the game will require you to play solo. Similar to “Hello Neighbor”, you will have to complete puzzles and unlock doors to escape the illusion-like twitching environment in which you are trapped in. All game data would be saved with Datastore 2 to help prevent data leaks and just overall make saving/retrieving data a whole lot easier.

I was thinking that since you’d play solo that everything could be on the client. Hackers could easily mess with everything on the clients however this wouldn’t affect other players since they would be in a one play server. This would be troublesome if I added 2/3 player servers.

Extra Information

The whole map will include models made by me with blender. These models would have PBR textures to give them more realism. Characters would also be realistic. Most of the puzzles will require some hard thinking. Some would be hidden and pretty difficult to complete (although I might save these ones for a chance for players to unlock a secret chapter).

Gameplay would be split into seperate chapters. Here’s a rough list of chapter ideas and locations:

Chapter 1: House (the place where Al lived)
Chapter 2: Playground
Chapter 3: Zoo
Chapter 4: Trailer Park
Chapter 5: Forest

Each chapter will include a part of the story. After completing all of the chapters, you will probably know the story and discover the mystery of Al’s sudden disappearance.

In summary, I’d like some feedback on the idea, changes I should make to game mechanics, and whether you would play the game or not.

Questions:

  • Would you play this game if it was fully released?
  • Do you think it could rack up a few concurrent players?
  • Would it be worth the time making it?

I think puzzle games are a very good way to go. Not many on the platform, and they’re always very fun. Maybe adding an edge for competition, like a speedrun leaderboard or something would make people more interested in replaying the game.

Good luck!
