My game Super Obby is not that original. Is it a good idea that every 32 stages the Genre changes?
For example: 1-32 stages is normal obby themed and 33-64 stages is Minecraft themed
No, it’s a bad idea
Yes, it’s a good idea
For example:
1-32 is normal themed
33-64 is minecraft themed
Yes, considering if the genre stays the same throughout the whole entire obby most players will lose interest in the game due to it just being plain and the same, unless the game is created perfectly to grab the players attention. I also wouldn’t recommend using a minecraft theme, but genres like rome, egypt, something similar to that. There’s a ton of genres to choose from that will keep players interested. But another good idea is adding a story line behind the obby to keep the players interested, story lines are always good ways to grab players attention.
If you think it is a good idea, it is always a good idea, be true to yourself, and I think it is a perfect Idea, just make sure it isn’t Minecraft theme, like @21stPsalm said keep it interesting to the players, a theme I would do is like escape your brother, or escape something you know? Or like a space obby to get to mars, now that everyone in the space industry is into mars all the sudden.
It is a good idea, yes. But execution is everything. Make sure you find your target audience’s interests, and somehow implement their likes in your game.
The genre isn’t changing but the theme of the stages are, would this just be an visual thing or will it impact the gameplay? Also what is “normal” theme. It is also worth noting that Minecraft is copyrighted so it wouldn’t be allowed on Roblox.
The switching of genres throughout the obby is undoubtedly a good idea, as it decreases the boredom of the obby since the player won’t be playing the same thing over and over.
When you change the genres, I recommend you still stick with one theme, though, to make the game seem more consistent.
What I mean by this is you could chose a theme that all the genres will link to, for example nature themed, all the separate stages will be different nature scenes (such as beach, forest, desert etc); or a gaming theme, each stage genre could be about a different game. (However if this is done make sure you don’t include copyrighted material).
I cannot say it is an entirely unique idea, since I have played a few obbies in the past which incorporate the genre-switching, however, the majority of obbies don’t do this, which will give your game a more different feel.
