Is this game idea possible for only 2 developers?

Me and my mate are currently working on a game that is very, very similar to Animal Crossing. It has the same idea, you fly out to an island and live on it. However, Animal Crossing is a very big game. Me and my friend want to emulate it on Roblox as much as possible.

So far, we’ve only gotten the chopping tree’s system done; But right now we’re working on the inventory system. But I can’t just stop thinking, we will have to make almost every model, mesh, script, mechanic that is in Animal Crossing. Every time I think of it, I get less motivated.

I’m just wondering, is this game even possible to make in under 1~2 years?

Sorry if this isn’t in the right topic, I’m new to dev forums

Nintendo is going to file a lawsuit when they see that game released

I mean, I’ve seen Animal Crossing games on Roblox, and they haven’t been taken down… yet

But anyways, we will try to remove as much copyrighted material as possible :cowboy_hat_face:

It is very possible. Please, please make it Animal Crossing inspired, not a direct rip or your game will be taken down… fast.

Alrighty. Will do! Just a question: Since my tree mechanic that I just finished (took me so long lol) is very similar to Animal Crossing’s, would I have to re-do that so that it’s not so similar? I have a passion for this game and I don’t want it taken down

No, I’d recommend you look up copyright law. Any systems that aren’t directly ripped are fine, just don’t steal assets, music, etc.

Hey there. Yes, this is under the correct category. Your game idea is possible, but as for the length of it, that depends on you guys’ specialties. You’re going to need someone that can at least make some decent animations, a good modeler, a good scripter, and a good UI designer. It may take more than just two devs to reach that under 1~2 years goal.

Be careful too. Nintendo is known for, well, making sure people get sued for copies, even if it’s okay by law. They almost got an SSBU mod taken down, but I’m assuming they failed to do so, as the mod is still up and nothing else has been said about the situation.

yeah and you dont have to release everything at once, you can release features every few weeks or so (never played animal crossing before so i cant really specify). You seem to lack the purpose of making this game other than your passion for animal crossing. I was in a similar situation before a few years ago when I wanted to recreate Petscop in roblox as a solo project, I ended up giving up on it because i sucked at the time. In my opinion if you really do feel like your going to get burnt out, you should focus on taking the core elements from Animal crossing that you enjoyed.

Okie dokie! Even though I like to consider myself an advanced scripter, that’s really all I have. My friend is a learning modeler and decent scripter. I might just make this game a learning experience for the both of us. :cowboy_hat_face:

Thank you for the explanation to help with burn-outs, as I have way, wayyyy too many games that are so close to being finished, only for me to just give up on it. That is honestly my biggest problem with developing.

Just don’t use any of there imported materials or else Nintendo will file a lawsuit against you.

Sorry if I keep asking questions, I’m quite the curious one! Is this text GUI too similar compared to Nintendo’s? Mine:

I would say that Arial Bold is more accurate.

Fredoka is a good option though, if you want lean slightly away from source material.

Ah, I see! I will probably just keep Fredoka to avoid copyright as much as possible, but this is a good suggestion! :cowboy_hat_face:

Even being inspired can be grounds for takedown, its best for the team to build their idea around the concept but make major changes to make it their own idea.

I mean anything on the platform is possible, so theoretically you could achieve this with two and even ONE PERSON.

It’s just gonna take a lot of hard work and dedication :+1:

Anything is possible given enough time

enough time might be 2+ years

motivation can also get a hit but if you are passionate enough, you can get through

Depends on how much you know, how much you can learn (actually learn and put to use), and how much you can do.
Technically one man can make a AAA game if given enough time and opportunities, but it won’t be coming out any time soon.

If I were in your place I’d make a basic version of the game, a prototype. Not a sandbox or testing environment, something that anyone can take a look at and at least think it might be a game. Improve it a little more past that, and start looking for other developers who want to contribute. They will speed up and improve your project.
When the game becomes more playable and content-filled, start getting testers. And from there keep going back and forth with improvements and additions until you can release a good game.

I don’t know how big animal crossing it but I assume there are already bigger games made on roblox. If this is the case, then yeah you would absolutely be able to do that, however you need to be working consistently and not take random breaks for like 3 months which some developers do.
