As you guys all know, Roblox is really strict when it comes to concepts around love on Roblox because the platform is comprised of predominantly kids. I am currently working on a story game and I’m wondering if it’s allowed to incorporate the above stated concepts on Roblox? What do you guys think?
Edit: Don’t get me wrong I’m not promoting dating or anything I just need the relationships among the NPC characters so they have a sense of personality/motivation.
If it doesn’t include two players being related or anything like that it should be fine (You can have two NPCs dating). You could possible have a mother player and a father player but try and try and stay far away from sexualising anything. Again this is a children’s game and ODing is already a big problem
You sure it’s allowed? I’m not trying to get people to online date in my game lol. I just thought including a relationship factor would be interesting in my story because those are strong incentives for doing things. Of course I will definitely stay away from sexual stuff.
Are two players dating or is it just NPCs? Surely if its got good story it should be allowed. The TOS rule was only implemented to stop dating games, not actual story games with a lore etc
Technically this wouldn’t be allowed, no, because said parents would be dating if they are married.
It doesn’t matter how the dating is disguised; whether it’s a married couple or it’s two players holding hands, any possibility can still be argued as promoting or encouraging such behaviour, hence why I strongly encourage the OP to completely avoid implementing this.
Roblox doesn’t allow content and behavior that encourages dating, but something like a piece of lore mentioning that 2 people are married like them having a common family name is perfectly fine. Something like love letters would be a good example of banned content.
However, if your game depends on concept of dating or marriage, then it is definitely a bannable case. All those adopt me games which include couples are threading a very thin line.
It’s a very risky, especially if you’re making it an entire “concept.”
It really depends on how you’re using it. Games like Adopt Me have a family system with parents/kids, but they don’t call them “girlfriend” or “wife.” That could be a violation of the terms (as already stated in this post several times).
In short, I would just suggest using parents instead of wife/husband.
I don’t see how anything I’ve said is ‘wrong’; I’ve literally pasted the rule from the Community Rules.
If something can arguably be considered a violation of the rules, it is well within Roblox’s power to moderate the violation. As the line between what is considered dating and what isn’t from Roblox’s perspective is unclear, it would be very wise to try to avoid the subject entirely to avoid the possibility of unknowingly crossing this line and receiving moderation action.
I do not mean to undermine any experience you’ve had with story games but the ToS is the ToS, and it is a fact that references to dating are forbidden.
Ah, this is where the guidelines get a little unclear, it states that characters should not be dating or promote dating. I would say if you have parents try to stay as far away from dating as you can.
Also, if you wanted to, you could ask a staff member here on the DevForum, they probably would have a better understanding of the guidelines and assist you better.
