At the moment, players in different regions seem to be seeing varying prices on Roblox items, which in some form I can agree with. Nobody should have to pay full price, especially in places where it can be harder to afford Robux.
But, with this there comes a few issues that should be addressed.
Players that previously bought these items for full price should be refunded or in some form compensated.
I don’t believe it’s fair to players that previously bought these items for full price (Especially bundles like Headless or Korblox Deathspeaker) to have their items discounted after they’ve already paid an outrageous amount to purchase them. They should recieve compensation using the same system as refunds.
Instability of sale items based on your region
Let’s take for example, the latest sale item Frosty Fedora. This item was sold for 2,500 robux, and later became a limited item. If this item had a regional discount, it would give an unfair advantage to players in discounted regions, and this could be easily abused with people making alternate accounts to flip a profit.
Developer pay cuts affected
If this regional discount applies to all future passes and UGC items, it’ll severely change the amount of robux developers currently make, even further than the 70% cut already taken.
Expected behavior
If these issues were fixed, I would expect;
Compensation given out to players who previously purchased these items for full price
One of my games often grabs the info of items in a server script, including their prices. As all items only appear at their normal price for me, there is literally NO WAY TO TEST whether this regional pricing will cause inconsistencies for some users (i.e. the game’s UI might show the item as costing way more than it actually does)
If the idea is to make catalog items more accessible in different regions, perhaps lowering the cost of ROBUX in those areas would be a more elegant solution.
Again, this has nothing to do with the removal of regional discounts, which I agree with, but rather compensation that would be fair for players who have already purchased these items before these discounts were available to them.
I this funny, how they can change the price for other regions. But, also its funny that they’ll drop the price so dirt cheap, that we who spent 50k on violet valk or 17k on korblox is a bit silly if they’ll only do it for every other place expect us.
I believe this is an update that comes with a few problems/bugs that should be addressed as we haven’t received much info and I don’t believe this update was seen with much oversight from staff. The discounted sale exploit that I mentioned is something that can easily be abused (Sale items have an initial price, discounting this would affect resale)
Not to mention the fact you can easily change your location via support
If you have qualms about the feature, you’ll have more luck waiting for an official announcement post on either the Developer Forum or Twitter and voicing your concerns there (where the relevant team will be reading). Alternatively, you could make this a feature request.
I personally don’t think there should be regional pricing on marketplace accessories. I’ll just put it this way, a developer from a country with a discount making the same, if not more Robux than a developer from the US for example is clearly benefiting the most from a change like this, leaving players who purchased these items originally feeling like they’ve been scammed. The marketplace prices for accessories should all be the same globally.
Regional pricing should only be in parts of the site like the buy Robux page, game subscriptions and plugins. NOT on the accessory marketplace with an established economy. As OP stated, the original owners of these discounted items should be compensated in some way or another as this is quite literally unfair since all developers around the world have an equal opportunity to make Robux on the platform, yet now only some users from certain places of the world get discounts on these big ticket accessories while the rest of us have to pay more.
While this makes sense as a feature, as others have mentioned, it should have been implemented into the Robux purchasing flow (if not already) rather than onto catalog items. Currently, if two developers both sell 1000 Robux worth of gamepasses, the one who lives in a region with a discount has a higher purchasing power in terms of avatars, even if they are both selling the exact same product. It seems quite odd to implement it this way rather than during the Robux purchase flow (where the currency is actually involved and presumably impacting the purchase power)?
if regional pricing becomes a feature usable on game passes its going to absolutely ruin donation games (which will be really funny) so shifting the regional pricing into the prices of ROBUX and premium directly would be a much better idea
Regional discounts should be made for robux & premium, not catalog items & products linked to games.
It would be unfair for developers to earn less money because someone plays in a different region. What stops somebody from using VPNs & changing their account’s location just to get everything cheaper.
I wouldn’t care much about getting my difference back on items such as violet valk or korblox, even though that robux would be welcome. I think this approach to regional discounts is very poorly executed & should be changed to purchasing robux & premium
