I am working on a paint tool for my building game. You can select a few different attributes to edit such as color, material, transparency, and reflectance. However, I am battling with keeping the space takeup low and making the UI look good.
My main issue is with the text.
Here is the main style of UI the game is going for currently, but I am specifically looking for feedback for the picture above.
I think that at least for the colour you should use a picture of the actual colour rather than the name. Not many players are going to know exactly what shade “Institutional White” is, and it would be a lot more readable. Then you can click on the colour swatch to bring up whatever colour wheel you have.
On that photo, do you click each part of the text to edit it or is that snippet just a description? If it’s the former, then i’d probably introduce a sliding scale to the right of the text, like i’ve made below. If it’s just a description then I don’t think it’ll look too cluttered if you push text to the right, again in the image below.
